The native JDBC driver actually connects to the ODBC service to connect to access, I think. I don't think the JDBC driver included with Coldfusion is actually a Type IV driver, it's only a type 2 driver or something like that, so it requires some native code to get to Access - in this case, the ODBC service. I don't know if I'm right or not, because I haven't used Access in YEARS (it's not suitable for web apps, IMO) There is a pure java Type IV driver available from this company: http://hxtt-access.hongxin-technology-trade-ltd.qarchive.org/ don't know anything about it really though, other than I'd seen it before. Re: CF MX Access DSN w/o ODBC Service
Once upon a time, I seem to remember hearing that you could use OLEDB to connect to access: cfquery dbtype=oledb ... /cfquery However, I've never tried that :). RE: CF MX Access DSN w/o ODBC Service
Is it possible to create an access datasource on 6.1 w/o having the ODBC service running? There appears to be an access native driver but when I try to use it it tells me that the ODBC service isn't running. Are you using the Access w/Unicode driver? That doesn't rely on the ODBC services. The regular Microsoft Access driver does, in fact, rely on ODBC.
