I like http://coldfusiondocs.com/app/, it has both ACF and Railo (although CF 9 stuff isn't there yet). I've found that cfquickdocs is not accurate when doing broader lookups. For example, if you search for array, you'll see it only brings back items that start with array. Things like isArray, ListToArray, etc..., are not listed in cfquickdocs, but they are in coldfusiondocs.com and cfmldocs.com. Can you automatically determine the location of the cfdocs directory?
Is there any way to automatically determine where the cfdocs directory is in CFMX?Seems there's nothing in the registry any more. This is for a tool not running in CF so I can't use any cf variable or anything to determine mappings or locations. This is for a tool not running in CF so I can't use any cf variable or anything to determine mappings or locations. I can think of a few possibilities, which might be vaguely useful. First, when CF is installed, a log file gets created. I'm not sure where the log file is, but I'm pretty sure that it contains this information. Second, the directory does get uninstalled, so the uninstaller must know where it is. I don't know squat about how the uninstaller works, though. Finally, I'm pretty sure that it's always installed parallel to the CFIDE directory, which you can determine by looking at the appropriate configuration file in CF. If you're building your own installer, though, I'd recommend that you just ask the user where the directory is (or if it even exists) - many people move things around after the installation. RE: Can you automatically determine the location of the cfdocs directory?
Thanks for the suggestions. With CF5 I think there are registry keys that tell you where the CFIDE is and cfdocs is relative to that, I'm mostly concerned with CFMX. I'll check out the uninstall option.. there must be a path to the uninstall file at least somewhere (not in mine since I'm using J2EE version installed separately from JRun, so I'll scare up a standalone computer). Asking the user isn't really an option since the tool is generic--most users won't have CF installed--this feature is only if they have it installed. They can always set up the link post-installation assuming they know to do that. Re: Snooping CFDOCS directory?
Ric, Someone was trying to exploit an old hole in the Cold Fusion application server, The Expression Evaluator. There was a fix on this with Version 4.0. Re: Snooping CFDOCS directory?
Thanks. Yeah, I've got the fix that only allows localhost access I just got real nervous and wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. I think I'll go ahead and remove the CFDOCS completely. Should I also move the CFIDE directory to something obscure? Ric Smith They were probably using a canned script which looks for the CF vulnerabilities. Either remove /CFDOCS/*, install the security fix, or just remove the files in /expeval/. FYI, the security fix simply restricts access to the localhost address for the files. Re: Snooping CFDOCS directory?
I think I'll go ahead and remove the CFDOCS completely. Should I also move the CFIDE directory to something obscure? Wouldn't advise it granted some templates on the CF admin are probably dependent on the directory they are located in. However what you can safely do is slap NT authentication on the CFIDE directory and make sure nobody from the web can access. Guarded with a strong enuough password, this should deter all but the most determined. You may also wish to remove the CF admin password to prevent yourself from entering passwords twice. Better still, slap an IP ban on the CFIDE directory so only trusted IP's can enter. -- Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/cf-talk@houseoffusion.com/ To Unsubscribe visit http://www.houseoffusion.com/index.cfm?sidebarRstsbodyRsts/cf_talk or send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with 'unsubscribe' in the body.
Re: Snooping CFDOCS directory?
You can do what we do here. Put the cfdocs and cfide directories in a directory other than wwwroot(or what ever your root directory is) and then map them virtually. That way you can still access them through the browser but you don't have the same security problems. You can also add ip restrictions so that only people that you know have access. Email me off list and I can tell you how to do this. That is of course if you're running MS's IIS. --K Katrina Chapman Consultant Ameriquest Mortgage "Ric Smith" rickyfusion@fusionsTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED] erver.com cc: Subject: Re: Snooping CFDOCS directory? 07/05/00 01:56 PM Please respond to cf-talk Thanks.
