cfdocument works. not that it doesn't have bugs but I would expect its
your code. I've thrown lots of stuff at cfdocument and never got
anything like that.

RE: CFDocument Error

2006-09-27 Thread Dave Hatz
I found the problem. I have been calling MS all sorts of foul names today
when all along it was my damn fault. We use a product called cfxpdf
Generator from easel2interactive on our CF6 servers. Well, I thought it
would be really cool if we could run this library from our newer CF7
servers. It worked great on CF7 Enterprise. But, it also broke Adobe's
.

There is a shit load of code in our older pdf generator files, I was hoping
to migrate it to CF7 without any rewrites. I have sent an email to
easel2interactive in hope that they have an updated .jar for CF7.

Is this an issue I should let Adobe know about or is it easel2interactive's
issue?

Thanks,
Dave Hatz

Thanks Mark, but you must give up too easy! Keep a post going a few days,
more people read it, more posts with helpful information, that's my logic.
Doesn't stop me learning other techniques in the meantime with the addition
that someone may post a helpful tutorial link or offer useful advice. When
people have had enough of this they will stop posting replies and I'll carry

Andy Andy Andy This thread has gone on for some time now. It should be
clear to you that there is simply no "easy" way to do this.

You've used that "I don't know where to start..." line a few times now if I
recall :) Frankly you have to either:

learn some advanced flash techniques
absorb some 3rd party SWF conversion API
Find some other way to use Straight HTML without your flash movie.

There are no options on the table that anyone (even gurus here) would
consider "easy" or "straightforward". Sorry dude. Fish or cut bait.

You might be better off to just create a printed report FROM your flash
movie. It's kind of painful - but flash does allow for very granular control
over printing.

As part of a reporting process I have a movie that allows the user to drag &
drop different icons onto the stage to form a diagram of player movement
during a football match. This data is then saved into my database as XML.
There is an option to be able to print this report. This is where I would
have liked to use cfdocument to generate a PDF file. The problem is that I
need to load the swf file and populate it with the xml data from the
database to recreate the original user diagram. I am interested in your idea
of embedding cfdocument but have no idea how to do what you suggest. :-(

There's pretty extensive documentation on using the Print Job class in
MX 2004. Its not that hard to use actually. You just print a movie
clip symbol using the Print job class - some info in the
chattyfig.figleaf.com archives for the Flashcoders list and also online
resources like Macromedia.com

RE: DESPERATE!!! Any way to embed SWF within CFDOCUMENT (PREVIOUSLY CFDOCUMENT ERROR)

2005-08-29 Thread Mike Nimer
Trying to embed and run another flash movie on a page in the cfdocument
flash paper - this is not possible with cfdocument. However, what about
embedding the cfdocument flashpaper into the other swf? This is easy.
Would that solve your problem?

Out of curiosity, what kind of movie are you trying to embed?

Hi John, thanks for your help. I am interested in how I can get a SWF to
print a screen. I really would like to use the cfdocument tag but to do
so I
cannot include a swf that is created on the fly as cfdocument cannot
render
them. If there is a way that I could process a swf and output it as an
image
on the fly that can then be included in a cfdocument then that will
work. If
you have any pointers on this then that would be a great help. :-)

I read the thread, but my understanding of the problem changed a few
times. Recent versions of Adobe Reader can embed and display SWF files.
A SWF file can be referenced in any HTML page. SWF itself can print a
screen or alternative display. Are any of these topics of interest to
you...?

Depending how you'd like to do this, you could:

- have an automated process print out the Flash file to PostScript, than
merge the 2 together.
- use flirt and than embed the images
- hack away at CFDocument yourself until you get it in there
- Or use a swf to pdf converter and than merge after the fact.

Cheers,

Thanks for the reply Dave. The flash file that I have is a standard SWF file
i.e. not generated by Coldfusion. The SWF's are populated dynamically at
runtime and it is this image that I need to print. I will look at the link
that you have suggested but that may well be out of my league.

Thanks anyway, this may well be the straw that breaks the camels back, looks
like I may have to return to ASP.NET before I go too far with Coldfusion me
thinks, oh well.

RE: DESPERATE!!! Any way to embed SWF within CFDOCUMENT (PREVIOUSLY CFDOCUMENT ERROR)

2005-08-23 Thread Dave.Phillips
Andy,

I did some googling and I found this for you:

http://flirt.sourceforge.net/example.html

First paragraph on this page says "Here I'll step through the test.c example
code that's in the root of the Flirt source. It's a simple command-line app
that takes an SWF file name for an argument, runs it for 100 frames, and then
renders out to a PNG file. As usual, we need to include a header:"

You may have to write something in another language utilizing something like
this Flirt software and then access it as a COM object or with CFEXECUTE or
something like that.

I don't know if this will do what you want to or not, but I thought it might
lead you in the right direction anyway.

Also, is the SWF file you are trying to convert to an image a dynamically
created SWF file or is it static? If it's dynamically created (like using
CFFORM) then I don't think you're going to find a way to do what you want to
do. If it's static, you may be able to use some type of utility (like the
above) to convert it.

Hopefully someone else on this last has already encountered your issue and has
a workaround. I wish you the best! I know how frustrating stuff like this can
be!

Dave

DESPERATE!!! Any way to embed SWF within CFDOCUMENT (PREVIOUSLY CFDOCUMENT ERROR)

2005-08-23 Thread Andy Mcshane
Can anybody help me, I am at breaking point here. I know now that Live Docs
state that CFDOCUMENT does not support embedding SWF files as it cannot render
them but I am desperately hoping that someone may have found a clever way to
get way around this or anybody know how to output a SWF as an image file on the
fly (I am not very savvy with Flash!). I am really desperate for something
because if I cannot find a way to make this happen then I will have to abandon
all the work that I have done over the last 3 weeks (flash forms, cfdocument,
etc), revert back to CFMX and start writing again! The CFDOCUMENT was the main
thing that got me to upgrade and now I can't use it! I could just scream!!!
Anybody, please?

Re: Coldfusion7 CFDocument error

2005-08-22 Thread Andy Mcshane
That was going to be my next question, is there a way to render the output as
an image and if so how could it be done? I would hate for this little problem
to be enough reason to stop my upgrade to Coldfusion7, please help!

Re: Coldfusion7 CFDocument error

2005-08-22 Thread dcooper
Yes, currently CFDCOUMENT doesn't support rendering SWF's, ActiveX's or Java
Applets. It's an enhancement request we have received, though and we'll
consider for the future.

If there's anyway to get the first frame of your SWF movie (or your diagram)
rendered to an image (bytes or file), you could include that in your document
just fine, and that might be the way to go.

Can the diagram be output as an image?

Re: Coldfusion7 CFDocument error

2005-08-22 Thread Andy Mcshane
OK guy's, I believe that I have tracked down the culprit of this error but now
I need to try and find out how to fix it. The problem happens because I am
trying to include a SWF file. Basically my users have the ability to create
diagrams using a flash movie, these diagrams then need to be printable. I
assumed that I could get away with this by simply including a read only version
of the generated SWF in my CFDOCUMENT but when I try to do this I get error
mentioned at the beginning of this thread. Has anyone come across this? Is what
I am trying to possible with CFDOCUMENT? Is there an aletrnative to achieve the
same thing? Questions, questions, questions!

Didn't receive anything...if someone can send me an example, we can take a
look.

I need either the full stack trace (that was one line) or an example or
there's not much we can do!

Does anybody know what could be the cause of this error,

'An Error of type "com.lowagie.text.ExceptionConverter" has occured'

'The document has no pages'

Other than the obvious no pgaes thing. I cannot se why my document would not
