RE: Macromedia launches Flex (Was Royale)
There most definitely is a server component which provides a ton of support functionality (web services support, Java object invocation, etc. etc). -- Tom Jordahl Macromedia -Original Message- From: Dave Watts [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, November 19, 2003 3:38 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: RE: Macromedia launches Flex (Was Royale) > So it looks like Flex is a JSP application 1st, and an ASP.NET > 2nd...but there's not any real mention of CFMX in the presentation. > Hmmm... >From my understanding, having sat through the keynote and one other Flex presentation, Flex is all just client-side code, which can interoperate with CFMX, webservices, local Java objects, and whatever else you have laying around, more or less. This is a good summary. Flex is a "presentation server." You can think of Flex as a rich version of HTML with a huge amount of functionality and flexibility. Instead of generating an interface using HTML and ColdFusion, JSP, ASP, PHP, etc., you use MXML to generate Flash, then "wire" that interface to web services, which can be implemented in any language. It's a wild paradigm. Christian [Todays Threads] [This Message] [Subscription] [Fast Unsubscribe] [User Settings]

Re: Macromedia launches Flex (Was Royale)
That was a good post. One thing, however, struck me as really odd. Third paragraph, last sentence, talking about building an event app... "a full, professional product, the needs to be extremely high performance (think Dreamweaver or Flash)." I think he must be using some super-secret never-released version of Dreamweaver if he sees it as being "extremely high performance". :( Ken Mike Brunt wrote: > There is a very good blog entry pointed out by Sean Corfield from David Mendels of Macromedia. It looks like Flex is to .swf as ColdFusion is to .HTML and the the new product Brady is the equivalent of ColdFusion Studio. Dreamweaver, the be all to all has inherited even more responsibility. It does look cool! I applied for the beta a little while back, but looking at it now and at my plate, it looks like I should wait for the retail product. So if MM is keeping tabs, I'll bow out in favor of Marlon. :-) -Kevin - Original Message - From: "Marlon Moyer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "CF-Talk" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Monday, November 17, 2003 10:31 AM Subject: Re: Macromedia launches Flex (Was Royale) > Oh man, this looks like a godsend!
