something better?
Now, I know for some, my question is going to seem to be heresy, but... Does anyone know of a multi-language editor other than Dreamweaver that offers pretty much the same features without half the crap Dreamweaver puts into the code? A little insight ~ I'm getting a little fed up with the host of ancillary amout of code and white space dreamweaver arbitrarily throws into my code. RE: something better?
I like codewhiz. http://www.incatec.com/cgi-bin/Codewhiz.asp I have been working on a CF language pack/color coding for like 3 months, but can not seem to find the time to finish it. Good editor though. Michael T. Tangorre Now, I know for some, my question is going to seem to be heresy, but... You could always try Frontpage. Then you would feel pretty good about Dreamweaver :) What part of DW puts extra code in you pages? If you're talking about wizards, that's just the nature of the beast. If you're coding from the CODE screen, it doesn't insert any extra code Marlon -Original Message- From: md insua [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, August 20, 2004 1:18 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: something better? RE: something better?
Do you mean code-only or wysiwyg? For code-only I'd suggest PrimalScript (http://www.sapien.com) or HomeSite+ (on DW cd). What version of Dreamweaver?Do you want a WYSIWYG editor or a code editor with helpers (GUI bits for editing tags, inserting regularly used code, canned scripts, etc)? I use Dreamweaver MX 2004 as an overblown text editor.I rarely jump to the WYSIWYG side and honestly I think I should have given one of the shareware editor makers half the money and asked for some specific features, would have been a better idea methinks. -- Damien McKenna - Web Developer - [EMAIL PROTECTED] The Limu Company - http://www.thelimucompany.com/ - 407-804-1014 Nothing endures but change. - Heraclitus [Todays Threads] [This Message] [Subscription] [Fast Unsubscribe] [User Settings] [Donations and Support]
RE: something better?
I'm not a huge fan of DreamWeaver either, but I use it.You can disable all of the code rewriting in the tool if that's you're only problem. My big problem is that the damn thing can't seem to show me a nice simple file list like every other program on the planet - it's always trying to show me the folders I had open or showing me wrong folders because it's caching the display.PITA. Still HomeSite still seems like a great choice and a lot of people seem to be moving to eclipse (although from the little I've seen eclipse seems even heavier than DreamWeaver if that's possible). RE: something better?
The thing that I personally don't like about eclipse is that it doesn't provide a shortcut to browse the file at a keystroke (such as F12 in DW).I use that all the time, and I am sorry but having to go external and browse through the 100+ clients we have is not a good solution.
