[cfaussie] Re: CF8 Dynamic PDF Content

2008-04-20 Thread Chris Ellem

Hi Claude,

If you post a cut down source example maybe someone will be able to
help.

I guess Rae is making the assumption you are used LiveCycle Designer
to create your template.

Is this the case? If so, maybe there is another way.

Regards

Chris

[cfaussie] Re: CF8 Dynamic PDF Content

2008-04-20 Thread Rae Buerckner
Hi Chris,

No, I did not assume that LiveCycle Designer was used to create the PDF.

However, I do believe that the only way to embed the javascript correctly
into a dynamic PDF is to save it as an XDP first then save the XDP as a
dynamic PDF. I could be wrong, but I do recall somebody aying something
about this before.

Cheers,

Rae

[cfaussie] Re: CF8 Dynamic PDF Content

2008-04-18 Thread Rae Buerckner
Hi Claude,

Unless you have the ability to generate JavaScript on an 'event' whist
compiling the PDF, then I don't believe it's possible.

I've been working with Adobe LiveCycle now for around 3 years. The dynamic
pdf's created with Adobe LiveCycle Designer are controlled mostly, with
JavaScript which is embedded by the developer into the .xdp file, unless you
can create an XDP file with CF8, then no I don't think it's possible.

Cheers,

Rae

I am working with the new pdf functionality of CF8 were we can populate
the interactive form fields with dbase data.

Has anyone been able to change images eg client logos within the pdf
 dynamically was well.

The intent is to have the one application form template and then populate
each clients details and logo into the template dynamically within cf8

You know Andrew we are all here to try and help one another and you going
bananas at people and using that sort of language when talking to people
doesn't give people much of an incentive to actually help you and listen to
what you are saying in the first place.

Watch your tone please and remember, your actions do not only reflect
poorly on yourself here, they also reflect poorly on the Cold fusion
 community as a whole.

If it really is causing you grief and you believe its a bug, report it to
Adobe directly and see what you get.

   Sorry.

 Let me recap again.

Accordingly the machine with .Net 1.1 and .Net 3.5 I have no problems
running .Net 2.0 assemblies with other applications that are aware of the
 .Net 3.5

The point that I was making is that Coldfusion DOES NOT SEE .Net 3.5 and
only sees .Net 1.1 so there is no way it will run .Net 2.0 assemblies. That
was the point I was making.

Now that we have Coldfusion 8.01 I was clearly told when in the beta
program of Coldfusion 8 that it would be aware of .Net 3.0+, I guess I was
lied too. And which is why I can't vouch for Coldfusion 8 only 8.01J

 Andrew.

Who is frustrated because people don't listen properly.

Andrew, I understand your frustration. I've not done enough work with the
CF/.NET integration to recognize your problem, but I'm not sure you want to
conclude, So no .net assemblies 2.0 and up will ever work in Coldfusion.,
or at least you don't want to assert that that's the case for everyone.
Surely we'd have heard more of a hue and cry from the community if that were
 so.

In fact, the CF docs offer an example (in the .NET integration section)
that says it's using a .NET 2.0 class. I've tried it myself (the first piece
of code) and it worked. What do you find?

 http://livedocs.adobe.com/coldfusion/8/htmldocs/help.html?content=dotNet_07.html

Also, the last example on this page also says it's using a .NET 2.0 only
 class:

 http://livedocs.adobe.com/coldfusion/8/htmldocs/help.html?content=dotNet_07.html

How does that work for you? It worked fine for me. If they work, then
clearly (if the docs are to be believed), you can call .NET 2.0 classes.

As for why your call to that system.environment class reported 1.1, I
can't say, but I can say that there could be a lot of possible explanations
for what you're seeing (if the above work), from my experience working with
.NET a couple of years ago. Things aren't quite always what they seem.

Hope that's helpful. If you continue to experience frustration, how about
bringing this up on the Adobe CF forums (advanced techniques or general
discussion). There are often people there who have had the same experiences,
and who may be able to point you in a better direction to solve the
 challenge.

Ok here is something even worse.

 type=.NET name=seClass class=System.Environment

 #seClass.Get_Version().ToString()#

I ran this on a server here, and got 1.1.4322.2407J

Yet I know for a fact that this server is not only running 1.1, but it has
 2.0sp1, 3.0sp1 and 3.5

So no .net assemblies 2.0 and up will ever work in Coldfusion. I removed
 the .Net integration
