[Chat] Help bring Google's Gigabit fiber to Baltimore

2010-02-23 Thread Emil Volcheck
Hello, neighbors,

Please check out the initiative to help Baltimore win
the privilege of being among the first locations chosen
for Google's Fiber for Communities initiative. Visit

http://www.bmorefiber.com/

to learn more. The selection closes March 26th.
The more support we get the better, so please spread
the word. Google is choosing a few locations to roll
out highspeed (Gigabit per second, or 1000 Mbps)
optical fiber. Verizon is not serving Baltimore with
their fiber optical FiOS service, so let's hope Google
will give it to us first. Highspeed fiber in Baltimore will
be a powerful enhancement to the Internet infrastructure
that will enhance business opportunities, telecommuting,
and better Internet service for citizens.

Thanks,

--Emil

Emil and all -

Our main City Council contact on the Where Is Bmore FiOS campaign tells me
that the City is aware of this and is actively exploring the RFI to see if we
qualify. Would obviously be a huge coup if we got it!

Matthew,

I've been in touch with the Mayor's Office of IT, and they are
submitting a response to the RFI. It's not so much a question
of whether we qualify, but how much response we can get!
