Re: [ChurchillChat] Re: The Churchill Central website

2017-08-30 Thread Johnmather via ChurchillChat
So simply said, the Churchill Central web site does not exist because it
has been merged into the ICS web site. So the resources originally at
Churchill Central can be found at the ICS web site. Is this a fair conclusion?
If
so no-one should ever bother now to access the Churchill Central web site
as it now does not exist.

Dear Richard,

I believe that the website was a temporary one, in 2015, now extinct, on the
occasion of the 50th anniversary of Churchill's death in 1965.

Google gives a false lead :

Bloomsbury Publishing - The Publishers Association
https://www.publishers.org.uk/activities/.../bloomsbury-publishing/
Find out more about Bloomsbury's latest publishing innovations. ... Launched
to tie in with the 50th anniversary of his death, Churchill Central
commemorates ...

How about continuing the job on the Hillsdale site ?

Whatever happened to "Churchill Central," the expansive website produced by
Bloomsbury Publishing which was going to unite and link all the websites of
all the Churchill organizations, and would be the obvious place for a master
calendar? I can't find it on the web; does anyone have its URL?

Re: [ChurchillChat] Re: master list of WSC events

2017-08-30 Thread Johnmather via ChurchillChat
Dear Prof. Espada,

I would love to be in Lisbon in November. Do you have any "speaker" slots
available as I would need to have some way of taking a Tax Deduction for
such a trip. As you know my area of expertise is Medical biography. There
is a lot that WSC did in Europe 1945 to 1965 that was severely impacted by
his heath and medical problems.

I think ICS is the obvious choice to maintain a Master Calendar for all of
us throughout the world but I sense it is overwhelmed by many other
priorities and pressures, and some limited resources. Maybe the Churchill
Project
at Hillsdale College could take this on and post a calendar on its web
site. Just a thought but someone might need to do this soon before we all
start running into each other coming and going.

Re: [ChurchillChat] Re: Stoll Lecture 2017: Churchill (12 October a poor choice)

2017-08-30 Thread 'Antoine Capet' via ChurchillChat

Dear John,

I entirely agree that the date was a poor choice.

I am / was in no way involved in the organisation - as a Fellow of the
Royal Historical Society, I simply received the information earlier today
and forwarded it to the List.

The Royal Historical Society is not involved, either.

I suppose the person to contact is anthony.davi...@stoll.org.uk at Stoll's,
as advertised on the relevant page :

https://www.stoll.org.uk/lecture/

Apparently, the champagne reception will take place in the same room as that
of the International Churchill Conference a few years ago in London - I
seem to remember "the famous Harmsworth Room housing the generators"

A fond memory . . .

With all best wishes,

This is fascinating and I would love to attend but this date in the last day
of The International Churchill Society Meeting in New York where I suspect
there will also be a number of United Kingdom attendees there who will
similarly lose out. I hope your registration is not hurt by the conflict in
dates.
Not to be unduly meddlesome, but was Mr. Allen Packwood consulted on the
advisability of this date as he is the senior person in the International
Churchill Society of the United Kingdom or its Executive Director Andrew
Smith?
