The CIA and the War on Drugsby Ed FelienPreface The British East India Company exercised monopoly control of the growing of opium in India and its transport and importation to China as early as 1750. Chinese Emperors objected. They issued edicts against its use. Foreign traders were ordered to surrender their opium in 1839. The British sent in warships, beginning the First Opium War. In 1841 the British defeated the Chinese. The Chinese had to pay a large indemnity and surrender Hong Kong. A little later some Chinese threw chests of opium into the sea in imitation of the American Revolution. The British were not amused. The British and French
renewed hostilities toward the Chinese, beginning the Second Opium War. The British won large indemnities and the importation of opium was legalized in 1856. As early as 1800 the British Levant Company was purchasing opium in Turkey for importation to the U. S. Smuggling was the sport of the ruling class in the first years of the 19th century. In 1805 Charles Cabot (of the Boston Cabots) was involved in trade from the British to the Chinese, and John Jacob Astor purchased 10 tons of opium in Turkey to sell to the Chinese. A lot of that opium found its way to America, either directly through importation to New York City or through the immigration of Chinese and consequent opium dens in San Francisco.Heroin was invented by Heinrich Dreser in 1895 while working for Bayer Drug Company. Bayer introduced it as a substitute for morphine. By 1903 heroin addiction
had risen to alarming rates. By 1924 heroin was made illegal and the black market and the underworld were born.In the early years of the 20th century, Corsican gangsters purchased opium from Turkey and from Burma through the French colony of Vietnam. They refined it in Marseilles, making it into heroin, and they brought it to New York to be distributed by the Mafia.

World War II, the Mafia and the OSS
World War II disrupted trade routes. Germany controlled much of the eastern Mediterranean, and the Japanese controlled Burma and Vietnam. The French convinced Hmong farmers to cultivate opium to insure a regular supply, but distribution routes to the United States were upset because Mussolini had virtually wiped out the Mafia in Sicily. With Lucky Luciano in prison and the European connections cut off, the American Mafia was in a sad state of disrepair in 1942. But then, Mafia kingpin Meyer Lansky had a great idea: “Why not join the war effort, liberate Sicily and restart the business?” He was able to sell the OSS (the Office of Strategic Services, the early precursor of the CIA) on his idea that the Mafia in Sicily would operate as a local resistance movement. The Mafia would assist in the liberation of Sicily if they could run Sicily and Naples after the United
States left. Also, Luciano would have to be released from prison. The OSS agreed and thus was born the first of many “bargains with the devil” that was to become the mold in which all future relations with the underworld and criminal class were cast. Most people in the OSS probably had no idea of the extent of the relationship. Many of those who did turned a blind eye to the role the Mafia played in the transportation of heroin to New York City. But some others did see the OSS setting up the drug smuggling operation on very similar lines to what would happen in Vietnam. [See, in particular, “A Pledge Betrayed,” Part 5, The OSS in Europe.]
Vietnam
When the French lost at Dienbienphu in 1954, they agreed to leave Vietnam. They and the Viet Mihn agreed to a temporary partition of the country into North and South Vietnam, and then in a year there were to be national elections and unity. Eisenhower, in his book, “Mandate for Change,” admits the United States couldn’t let elections happen because the Communists would have won them. So, even though the United States signed the agreements and said they would abide by them, the United States sent “advisors” into South Vietnam to set up a series of puppet governments to maintain the fiction of two Vietnams. The CIA also inherited the Meo tribes and the Hmong in the mountains. These people had been clients of the French, now they were clients of the Americans. They continued to grow opium and planes still flew the opium to Marseilles, but now they were U.S. planes from Air America, the new CIA charter airline.Narconon International says in the 1950s, before there were overt hostilities, “U. S. efforts to contain the spread of Communism in Asia involves forging alliances with tribes and warlords inhabiting the areas of the Golden Triangle, (an expanse covering Laos, Thailand and Burma), thus providing accessibility and protection along the southeast

Exactly what parts of the articles I posted are you
 talking about?
 Can you quote them please?

Hi dear friend!

I was specifically referring to the intro:

Slavery as it existed in the South was not an
adversarial relationship with
pervasive racial animosity. Because of its dominantly
patriarchal character, it
was a relationship based upon mutual affection and
confidence... Slave life was to them a life of plenty,
of simple pleasures, of food, clothes, and good
medical care.

also:
asserts that slaves weren't treated as badly as
people think.

I am NOT saying that these slaves were perfectly
treated, but they were treated BETTER than illegal
Mexicans today who do most of the US hard work, or
than blacks today, or the sweatshop workers who make
most (cheap) things that the USA and EU use today.

Even the worst part, that the women were sexual toys
of the men, and even the children... that has been
humanity in its nature always (in the Bible, the
'natural' man is one who does not know God). I've
always seen it, since I was a 13 yr old, and even
since about age 9. Perhaps the ONLY place I have seen
this well expressed is on Brazilian soap operas
dealing with slavery in colonial times. I also saw it
in Alabama.

This may sound weird coming from a Quaker, but note
that I do NOT say these things are good, but that we
need to stop fooling ourselves so as to make things
right.

For example, all that the US has been doing in
Gunatanamo, and ALL of Cuba. Is that any less demoniac
than what slaveholders did? Nope, because slaveholders
were not mostly perverts, as are any soldiers in a war
situation, nor was the land being stolen, as in the
much worse genocide against the natives.

The Africans were kidnapped. (TODAY, their land is
being stolen, war is the tool, and the ONLY hope of
Africa is the descendency of those slaves) But there
was no genocide, and abuse was not as bad as what Bush
does today to ALL the rest of the world.

Just look at me- I have a horrendous problem now, ONLY
because Mr. Danger, as Chavez calls Bush, has caused
problems with finding meds. My medication can cause
fatal seizures if interrupted, and since the coup,
I've been living a life of 'slavery' to the USA's
economic desires in OUR country! I'd be much better
off smoking natural pot or opium instead of having
poisoned myself with those meds! The drug war today is
also much more cruel on afro-americans than the
slavery ever was.

I'd rather have been a black slave in Alabama than go
through these seizures, looking for medicines all over
this gigantic city. Of course, I should mention that
slavery seemed to cause some epilepsy- Harriet Tubman
got it from being hit on the head by her master. But
my seizures have already caused a LOT of damage, even
to the children I used to teach, who have no good
tutor anymore. And from falling, I have a lot of
smashes on my head, too.

A comment on school curriculum- apart from what the
book was, I wonder WHO designed the curriculum, and
with what purpose. Perhaps that is rather what you
were addressing? Were parents asked if that is what
they want their kids to learn? What is the racial
makeup of the place? Are kids allowed to express
different opinions?

Thinking about that, I remember that Quakers
specifically left North Carolina because of the
slavery issue. The slaves they were releasing were
being re-caught, and sold again. SO they began to go
west, slaves and all, to free them there- and with
this good purpose, they 'pushed forward' the
completion of the natives' genocide.

What is worse? I am at a loss. ALL I can say, is that
the USA all smells like spilled blood.

Vanessa

[cia-drugs] academic freedom?

2005-07-27 Thread Vanessa Di Domenico
http://www.stophr3077.org

On Tuesday, July 26, 2005, the following alarming
article was published
on CounterPunch:

Meet the New McCarthyites
Return of the Academic Witch Hunts
by David Lindorff [EMAIL PROTECTED]

McCarthy-style witch hunts are coming back, and the
first place we'll
be seeing them is at Pennsylvania's public colleges
and universities.

Under the innocent-sounding name Academic Bill of
Rights, a gaggle of
right-wing culture warriors in the Republican-led
Pennsylvania House
recently passed HR 177, a resolution authorizing them
to invade public
colleges and universities armed with subpoenas to
grill faculty on
curricula, reading lists, exams, homework assignments,
grading and teaching
styles, and to take testimony from students, allegedly
to determine
whether their professors are fair or biased.

The underlying assumption of the resolution -- part of
a nationwide
campaign spearheaded by one-time SDS lefty and now
rabid right-wing
activist David Horowitz -- is that America's colleges
and universities have
been overrun by leftist fanatics intent on banishing
conservative ideas
and punishing conservative or Christian students who
dare to speak out.

The notion that leftists are in charge in academia, is
as bogus as the
notion that the media are dominated by liberals. The
political mix on
most campus faculties across the country is not much
different from
what you'd find in the broader community. Moreover,
leftist teachers are
no more likely to impose their ideas on students or to
punish those who
disagree than are rightists (maybe less), and in
either case such
behavior should and would likely be roundly condemned.
 (Any decent school
has a mechanism for students to challenge political
bias by a professor,
and indeed Horowitz and his minions have been
hard-pressed to show any
hard evidence of such abuses.) Add to this the
reality that at the
higher you look in university administrations, through
chairs to deans and
provosts on up to presidents, the more conservative
officials tend to
be politically. At Pennsylvania's Temple University,
for example, the
University Senate voted resoundingly to oppose HR177
as a threat to ac
ademic freedom and free speech, yet the university
president, David
Adamany -- technically an ex-officio member of the
Senate -- was quoted
publicly as not seeing anything troubling about the
legislative intrusion
into academic affairs.

In my own limited experience in academia (which has
included teaching
at Alfred University, a small liberal arts
institution, Ithaca College,
a rather mainstream private institution with an
emphasis on the arts,
and Ivy League Cornell University), being overtly on
the left was seen
as a bit edgy, and perhaps even dangerous to one's
tenure aspirations.

The Horowitzniks and Pennsylvania's HR177 backers also
misunderstand,
or deliberately misrepresent, the role of a university
professor,
particularly in the liberal arts fields like
literature, political science,
philosophy, sociology, etc., which is where their
attention is focused.

University teaching, unlike elementary and high school
instruction,
should not be so much a covering of the field as an
introduction to the
idea of self-instruction and independent thinking. At
its best, a
college course should teach students how to pursue
knowledge on their own,
how to research and express their own ideas, and how
to defend and, as
needed, amend or even reject those ideas on the basis
of free
intellectual debate.

There is nothing wrong with having a teacher who
presents a point of
view, as long as that teacher is honest about it, and
open to challenge.
My favorite teachers when I was an undergraduate in
the late '60s were
precisely those professors who held strong views with
which I disagreed
vehemently, because they forced me to clarify my own
thinking and to
defend my own contrarian positions.

What Howoritz and the HR177 resolution backers seek is
a bland, neutral
academy where everyone keeps her or his ideas to her
or himself. By
bringing a legislative inquisition to campus, these
people are really
pursuing an agenda of intimidation and conformity,
hoping to silence those
in academe who may hold views out of synch with the
national consensus.
I taught once at a school that was like that: Fudan
University in the
People's Republic of China.

Pennsylvania is the first state where they've
succeeded in passing a
version of Howoritz's insidious red-baiting
legislation. The
anti-intellectual crew in Harrisburg was aided in its
efforts by a state media
that ignored their campaign until the measure had
already passed.
Pennsylvania's main newspaper, the Philadelphia
Inquirer, ran no reports on
House hearings on the resolution or even on the final
vote. In fact, the
Inquirer's first mention of the resolution -- run
after the measure had
already passed -- was an op-ed rant by a

Dear Bob, first let me say that the vagal nerve
stimulator is NOT for 'mental' patients- its for some
of us with epilepsy who cannot control it well with
meds. As for the convicts, that is nothing compared to
what they are doing with the research into epilepsy,
which is where ALL the gov's knowledge about the brain
comes from

My doctor friend who studied all of those databases

CIA agent Harold Hodge, who controlled all US
dental research grants and top dental academia
positions for decades, had an underground tunnel
from his office and lab into a mental institution.
Without their permission or knowledge, Hodge
injected patients with radioactive substances. No
doubt he had some pompous excuse. That was
only a couple of years after several US states
stopped doing involuntary surgical lobotomies.
Hodge is the one who financed all fluoride studies,
which universally proved how dangerous it is, but
he only showed them to corporate lawyers, not to
victims and families and their lawyers, who were
always told no studies had ever been done. The
tip of the iceberg became visible as Dupont
removed Scotchguard stain resistant coating from
the market, but perlfluorates(such as MTBE fuel
additive) are making toxic metal water-soluble,
polluting our groundwater.

Fluoride is stupifying, CIA agent Hodge's studies
all showed.

brains and then seeing what happens.

subjects got their own activation button, but then
they were all obsessive-compulsive types anyway),
general stimulation by light strobing at different
frequencies, sound and microwave at different

and light implants, the whole spectrum and frequency
of energy, focuses and general, plus chemical and
radioactive stimulation, plus Abu Ghraib and Parallax
View(Warren Beatty) associational inputs(in tandem
with the other and not). And battery acid by injection.

 And there is also
the research into epilepsy causing super-intelligence.
And the fact that it also causes more 'criminal'
behaviour, and a lot of marihuana use, so that these
convicts can be treated by neurologists who do
whatever they want. (Neuroscience is one of my big
study hobbies)

For epilepsy info, guess who on the list is the
expert, even on research. My type is left-sided
temporal lobe, of the type that creates math/science
geniuses. Newton also had this. Alfred Nobel, Pascal,
Socrates, Aristotle, Freud, de Quincy (read the last
2's books about their epileptic dreaming, bases of
whole sciences- and Freud's favorite epilepsy drug was
cocaine, which unfortunately makes it worse in the
long run.)

so... to the point.

Any idiot with experience handling drugs, or money to
pay someone who has it, would never try to do this
with coke. It wouldn't work- it would have to be done
with heroin, which people who are addicts will always
buy, not caringh how many people died yesterday from
it... they'll still want it.

But more important: contaminated cocaine is easy to
recognize just by looking at it, and if its old, it
can be recognized from the smell. It breaks down fast.

Ozzy Osbourne wrote the song 'Snowblind' to describe
how pure coke looks- like snow which has just fallen.
And the smell is that of benzoic acid, a part of the
preservative it needs because it breaks down so fast.

I suppose the US gov idiots used coke because they
know no arab would swallow the lie of Osama using
Opium-related
