I believe you are right. I peeked at audioesound.C, and it looked
quite simple, less than 200 lines of code. Much less than the ALSA
 output driver.

I would propose writing a pulseaudio driver, instead of patching
the old ALSA driver. That would fix the problem in the right place.
It could be fairly low hanging fruit.

Write a patch. I am ready to review.

Miroslav, can you do a simple test? Rename your $HOME/.bcast directory
 to something else.
Then load your media file (not project!) and try to play it. Do you
hear sound?

If you do not hear sound, post the output of 'aplay -l' and 'aplay -L'
here.

So Cinelerra failed silently to decode the audio. It happens. There is
quite a few media formats that Cinelerra can decode. And it not always
gives error messages while it fails.

Seems this problem is solved. Rename your .bcast back - this contains
all settings of Cinelerra. There is no more settings anywhere else.

Yes, but it's you who remembered to go and see what kind a file it was
that I was trying to play.
And you spent a fraction of my time with this issue...
And I waked and slept with this all these days...
And I was completely convinced that I wasn't able to do the editing that
was urgent to me back than because of this... while it was there for the
doing all that time!
Merciful God!
But I'm not crushed with this. I can laugh at it, because it is also
very funny!
Anyway, thanks for Cinelerra to all you of guys!
I hope I will be useful truly to your project which I very much like and
respect, some other time.

[CinCV] Confused about ffmpeg -vf crop=h:w:x:y

2012-03-23 Thread Murray Strome
This may be a bit off topic, but I am hoping that someone might be able to help
me to better understand the new way of cropping video.

Typically, the original video is one of .MPG, .AVI or .VOB and the usual size
is 720X480 with an aspect ratio of 4:3 (at least according to the properties I
can discern).  Depending upon the original source, the actual part of the video
that I want may be:
4:3 filling the whole frame4:3 but not filling the whole frame, centred16:9
filling the width of the frame with black bands at top and bottom, centred
vertically
16:9 not filling the whole frame with black bands at top, bottom, left and
right, centred both horizontally and vertically.Situation 1 is no problem --
just keep things as they are for editing, etc.
In case 3 above, I used to use croptop={size of black band} cropbottom={size of
black band}  with -aspect 16:9
In the other two cases, I would add cropleft and cropright. For case 2 I would
use -aspect 4:3 and for 4, -aspect 16:9
In all of these, I would end up with the video filling the frame with the
appropriate aspect ratio.
I have read the man pages, looked at lots of descriptions on the net, but still
have not figured out how to do the same thing with the new -vf crop=h:w:x:y.

I have tried lots of combinations, but everything I have tried so far
(especially when original had black bands both vertically and horizontally)
seems to just move the video around within the larger frame but keeping the
black bands. I am using -s hd720 to create a 1280X720 HD video.

Perhaps I need to do something different to fill the frame. Here is an example
of a command I used to try to do this; perhaps someone can tell me what I am
missing:
 ffmpeg -i input.mpg -vf crop=in_w:in_h-32:0:0  -t 150 -s hd720 -b 8500k
output.mpg
input.mpg was 720X480 with the 16:9 aspect active video centred.in the 4:3
frame with black borders. The resulting output was 1280:720 16:9 with the video
shifted down, but still not filling the frame.
Thanks for any help.
Murray

Will do, later. It just moved further down on my TODO list,

It will be a simple side-task to adding Jack support,

[CinCV] can't it really import flv files?

2012-03-23 Thread Matteo Sisti Sette

Hi,

I must be missing something.
I've installed cinelerra and I've tried to import a video file by
selecting load files from the File menu.

Isn't that the correct way to import a video file and use it as a video
clip?

I tried to import a flv file which is encoded with the h264 codec, and
which I can play without any issue in any video player (e.g. Gnome
MPlayer or VLC or Movie Player), so I definitely have all the needed
codecs installed on the system.

Cinelerra says it can't determine the format, assuming PCM (which it
obviously isn't) and asks me to select audio format parameters (such as
sampling rates, number of bits etc),

It obviously doesn't import the audio correctly and doesn't import the
video at all.

The question is, is there something I'm doing wrong, or doesn't really
Cinelerra support this kind of video file?
I would expect it to be able to import ANY file that my system is
capable of playing. Isn't it?

thanks
m.

Oh I see, I didn't imagine there still were video editing programs that
work that way.

Cinelerra does not recognise the .flv _container_, but it can
probably handle the video and audio codeds within.

This might produce a file that Cinelerra can handle:

ffmpeg -i yourfile.flv -acodec copy -vcodec copy newfile.mov

Great, that'll do the job for now.

Thanks
m.

uninstall it (assuming it is not used for other packages) and try to install
