[cisco-voip] Unity Connection - Exchange permission

2016-07-11 Thread george.hendrix
Hey Guys,

I know the service account in Exchange for Unity Connection requires
application impersonation permissions. Does this permission allow the service
account to view a user's email box content even if the user doesn't have an
account in Unity Connection?

Bill

[cisco-voip] Unity Connection vs Exchange UM

2016-07-11 Thread george.hendrix
Guys,

I have searched for a recent comparison of Unity Connection and MS Exchange

and not depend on MS, but also would like to see a recent side by side
comparison of these solutions.

Thanks,

One last though Bill,

IMO, the best way to deal with the old 79xx's that had the intermediary
firmware upgrade issue is to manually upgrade it offline.

- Download and unzip all the firmware file for the load version into a folder
on your PC (source the firmware ZIP file from CCO)
- get a tftp client (TFTP32, tftpd ... etc) and point it at that folder
- put a file named "XMLDefault.cnf.xml" in that folder too
- put the following contents in the XML file

 2000

2427
2428

*** THE FILENAME OF THE .LOADS FILE, WITHOUT THE .LOADS
EXTENSION

- Put your PC and the phone on an isolated network / vlan and create a DHCP
scope that offers Option 150, which points at the ip of the tftp server (your
PC, in this case)
- Boot the phone on this network and it should upgrade. Do this for all the
incremental versions.

Thanks,

Ryan

Bill,

To fix the factory-reset 7941 phone (I'm assuming this means you used # +
123456789*0#), you'll need to first upgrade it to the intermediate 8.3(3), then
8.5(2), then 9.x. I wouldn't factory reset anymore of those older 79xx's. Here
is a reference:
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cuipph/7900_series/firmware/9_3_1SR1/release_notes/P790_BK_R4E1E768_00_rn-9_3_1_sr1-7900-series/P790_BK_R4E1E768_00_rn-9_3_1_sr1-7900-series_chapter_00.html#CUIP_TP_S3B5C8CB_00

Prior to the cluster reboot (reboot would have been required (but not forced)
since you were adding model support not previously supported) you mention that
you did change the 7941 device default back to the 9.3(1) load; however, it
seems the 7941 phones may have gotten the prompt to upgrade. The 7941 should be
able to upgrade from 9.3(1) to 9.4(2)SR1.1 (what would have been in that device
pack) without issue however. Just for clarification, you did install the device
pack on all cluster nodes, correct? If you haven't rebooted the cluster yet,
I'd suggest at least restarting the tftp services, then reboot in a maintenance
window.

Thanks,

Ryan

You don't need the LDAP integration for Single Inbox so that should work fine.

As soon as you delete the LDAP directory, it just marks all those users as
inactive. The users won't be deleted until the next 3:15am period that is at
least 24 hours later. If it finds a matching user ID in the new LDAP
directory, the users will automatically become active again when you do a sync.

Worst case, you just re-add the original LDAP Directory configuration then do a
full sync to make all the users active again if you can't get the new one to
work.

[cisco-voip] EMCC vs Cluster SIP trunk with call forwarding

2016-05-10 Thread george.hendrix
Guys,

We currently have two separate CUCM clusters (9.1 and 10.5). The 10.5
cluster would be the home cluster and the 9.1 cluster would be the
remote/visiting cluster. Which of the two would be the better option to go
with?

1. Phone is setup on 9.1 cluster and a SIP trunk between the two clusters.
Call forwarding for busy, etc. is passed over the SIP trunk to the voicemail
pilot on the 10.5 cluster.

2. Use EMCC between the clusters where the 10.5 cluster would be the home
cluster.

Also, when using EMCC, the phone is actually registered with the 9.1 cluster,
but the user login is with the 10.5 cluster (the extension). Would the actual
call (RTP to other phones and PSTN) access be controlled by the home cluster?
Wouldn't the phone subnet also need to be able to reach the home cluster PSTN
gateways and phones? Basically, anything it may need RTP access to?

Thanks,

[cisco-voip] CUCM with Lync RCC

2015-09-29 Thread george.hendrix
We are in the process of upgrading our Clients from Office Communicator to
Lync. One of the things we've used with MOC is CUCILync, which works great and
we can make calls on our desk phone in MOC. However, with Lync, this doesn't
seem to work the same. I've installed a compatible version of CUCILYNC that
works with Lync, but don't see any way to make desk phone calls in Lync. There
is an option in Lync when I right-click a contact for "Place a Call" and seems
to be an Icon for CUCILYNC, but it does nothing when I click on it.

Also, if we wanted to just remove CUCILYNC, to have call/phone control in Lync,
would this require we stand up a Cisco Presence server?

We've been running Cisco UC integration version 8.X (CUCILYNC 8.6) for a

clients to MS Office 2013, but still use MOC R2. I can't find any
product/solution that is compatible with MOC R2 as well as Office 2013 and
still provide click to call functionality. Are there any options from Cisco
that we can use that will allow integration with MS Office Communicator R2 and
Office 2013 that will provide call control and click to call too? Also, it
seems the new CUCILYNC version is a totally separate window, instead of an
add-on section to the bottom, like it is with MOC R2.
