No, I can't really...as the ip address is returned for the lookup database.clamav.net,
not freefall.marmara.edu.tr. I would have to tie freshclam to one server only, which
is not really what I want to do...

It has nothing to do with Plesk as you rightly said. I have got clamav
working with Plesk in almost half a dozen ways.

[Clamav-users] Problems installing on OSX server

For about a month, we've been adding virus-generating IPs to a local
blacklist with a 4-day expiration.

It's a compromise, since it's possible for the IP to get reassigned during
that time, but it has helped cut down our server load, and we've had two
customers discover they were infected when they couldn't send email.

Then there was the one that tried to forward a virus message to an outside
consultant asking "Should we be concerned about this?" I forget whether it
had come in through another channel or just before freshclam picked up the
signature, but they ended up on our blacklist because of the forward. So
there are risks to anything.

[Clamav-users] Limiting clamd memory useage

2004-06-11 Thread Graham Dunn
Clamd tends to eat up all the remaining memory on our mail server (we're
getting dictionary spammed like mad lately). I'd like to keep it using
less than 100M, it pushes 150-200 when it hits nested mime.

Is there an clamd option, or are people using ulimit for this? Does
anyone have an example of a startup script they'd like to share?

Thanks,
Graham

Thanks Jim.

I cannot start clamd service, it says that the service is not recognized.
However, clamscan works if I scan a directory or an infected file.

I changed MailScanner.conf and added the antivirus protection and set the
antivirus to clamav.

I'm new on this and haven't explored my server deeply but I think I'm not
using sendmail but qmail (Stupid question: how do I find that out?). I get
an "illegal option" error when starting MailScanner and actually I cannot see
sendmail service running. I also cannot start it with "service sendmail
start" 'cause it doesn't recognize it. I tried to change MailScanner to use
qmail but I did something wrong 'cause it didn't start at all.

Just for you to know, MailScanner is up and running and I think it is
detecting spam with spamassassin.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Cheers,

Alfredo

Re: [Clamav-users] Any idea??? Clamav & MailScanner are not rejecting viruses!

2004-06-11 Thread Jim Maul
Quoting Alfredo Rivera <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:
Hi guys,
I've installed clamav 0.72 and MailScanner on a RedHat 7.3. However, I still
can receive viruses by e-mail (I've tested from testvirus.org).
Here are some facts:
- Clamav seems to be working, if I download an infected file to any directory
on my server and scan with clamscan, it is detected
- Mailscanner & spamassassin seem to be working since the number of spam
messages now is very small. When I type "top" I can see from time to time
MailScanner running.
Two questions, what would be the name of the clamav service that I should see
when typing "top"? How do I start it?
Thank you very much for any help that you guys can give me. I'm going crazy
trying to properly configure this!!
If using clamdscan, then you would need the service clamd running. If using
clamscan, then there is no daemon necessary. Are there any headers in the
email showing anything about clamav? Do you see anything in the clamav logs?
Is mailscanner set up correctly to scan all incoming mail and to call
clamav on
each message? Just because clamav is installed and working from the command
line does not mean that mailscanner is using it.

[Clamav-users] Problem using HTTPProxy with Username and Password

2004-06-11 Thread Bill Maidment
Hi
No one responded to my previous post (probably lost under the original
thread), so I'll give it a new thread.

Running freshclam from clamav-0.72 through an authenticated firewall no
longer works (worked fine in 0.71). I can't see anything in the
freshclam source that could have caused this, so maybe it's a reaction
to some other change.

freshclam daemon started (pid=29313)
ClamAV update process started at Mon Jun 7 11:02:11 2004
ERROR: Malformed CVD header detected.
ERROR: Can't read main.cvd header from database.clamav.net (1.90.1.244)
I'm using the following in /usr/local/etc/freshclam.conf with real data
replaced with s, u, p

# Proxy settings
HTTPProxyServer s
HTTPProxyPort 3128
HTTPProxyUsername u
HTTPProxyPassword p
Another system with no authentication on the proxy, works fine with
HTTPProxyUsername and HTTPProxyPassword commented out, but it also shows
the above error if I uncomment those lines.

Cheers
Bill

Re: [Clamav-users] clam 0.72 + linux + ntfs + ole2 = segfault :(

Hi,
I am using clamav binaries from Crashhat for Fedora Core 1. And have
an NTFS filesystem mounted through http://linux-ntfs.sourceforge.net/.

After upgrading 0.72, there is two problems with OLE2 files:
1. clamscan and clamd both segfaults when trying to scan OLE2 files
located on ntfs partition.
2. When the file is on ext3 partition, there is a debug error but no
segfault.

I know that is a bit confusing. Sorry for that. Hope the debug output
helps.
This one is most interesting :
LibClamAV debug: mmap'ed file
Segmentation Fault
Perhaps linux-ntfs implementation does not support mmap yet.
How about trying captive-ntfs ?
Even if it doesn't work for clamav, captive-ntfs has great ntfs-write
capability.
I tried it for sometime. Only stopped because because
I decided to make my PC clean from windows (and ntfs).

Fajar
