Eh, I'm used to stripping out unnecessary options out of the spec

As you wish, but the point is that you can build either version from the

Does your ClamAV installation detect Eicar (or any virus)?

http://www.eicar.org/anti_virus_test_file.htm

I don´t know if it´s normal but freshclam is only downloading 2 files
 main.cvd (version 24), and daily.cvd (version 399)
There are no viruses.db or viruses.db2 files..

Yes, that's normal.

The .cvd files are the new database style, the .db? files are the old style.
You should use only one (preferably the new one) on any given system.

 --- SCAN SUMMARY ---
 Known viruses: 45142

That indiactes a problem - you have two copies of the signature database/s,
because this is approximately twice the number of current signatures known to
ClamAV (22551).

Either you have both the old and the new databases (in which case delete the
old .db and .db2 files) or you have the database installed in two places (in
which case delete them both and then re-run freshclam).

Check that ClamAV successfully detects the Eicar test virus, and then let us
know how you are passing emails to ClamAV for scanning (eg amavis, milter,
mailscanner, etc...)

Regards,

Antony.

That's because you're trying to scan root's files when clamav is running
as non-root.

The group and user is set to clamav for the dir and its contents.

The top directories (in this case /root and /root/clamav-0.74) must also be
accessible by clamav user.
Even running
in root does not alter this outcome.

Running what? Running clamdscan as root will NOT change the outcome.
Running clamscan will. Changing the user on clamav.conf will too.
Just move (or copy) the test directory somewhere else (e.g. /tmp),
and try again.
It does not detect anything in the test dir
because of the error.

Feel free to ask for more info. I'm open to suggestions.

 [EMAIL PROTECTED] clamav]# /usr/sbin/clamav-milter --version
 ClamAV version 0.74, clamav-milter version 0.74a

running Fedora Core 1 with dag rpms:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] clamav]# rpm -qa|grep clam
 clamav-0.74-1.1.fc1.dag
 clamav-milter-0.74-1.1.fc1.dag
 clamav-db-0.74-1.1.fc1.dag
 clamd-0.74-1.1.fc1.dag

Here's what I got from the core dump:

I haven't been following this thread close so bare with me with my
question. Did you just recently upgrade your kernel? If you did try
moving the /lib/tls directory to some other location. I had a similar
problem with a RedHat server about a week ago after I installed a new
 kernel.

I'll give it a try tomorrow. Any idea why it might work. Certainly there
was a kernel upgrade (we upgraded to a newer FC1 kernel).
