[Clamav-users] Message Processing Platform (MPP) Free Edition launched

2005-03-14 Thread Rob Kudyba
Message Partners has launched a free edition of our Message Processing
Platform (MPP) for those who want to use SpamAssassin and ClamAV with
Sendmail, QMail, Postfix, CGPro or SurgeMail email servers. MPP Free
Edition includes our comprehensive Webmin module, most of the features
of MPP-LE and most of the security and utility features of MPP-LE
including adding disclaimers, blocking extensions, quarantine
management, log monitor, file size limitations, mime error handling,
many security checks, and more. MPP Free Edition is tons faster than
many of the perl interfaces to SpamAssassin or ClamAV and will greatly
reduce the load on your servers if you are using perl tools for this
purpose and you have a heavily loaded email server. MPP Free Edition
comes with mailing list support only, [EMAIL PROTECTED], and zero
warranty. We are starting with Linux, FreeBSD, and OS X support.

Download and give it a try at

tons faster, greatly reduce load? Have you conducted any serious
benchmarks?

For a lightly loaded server the differences are negligible. When load
is high there is a marked difference between perl tools and MPP.

Test results
==
1. Hardware:
==
CPU: Celeron 1.7Ghz
Mem: 512Mb DDR
HDD: 80Gb Seagate
2. Software
=
Linux: RedHat 9.0
Kernel: 2.4.20-8
Sendmail: 8.12.8
3. Tunning:
=
3.1. hdparm parameters: -c3d1A1u1
root # hdparm -tT /dev/hda
/dev/hda:
Timing buffer-cache reads: 1364 MB in 2.00 seconds = 680.40 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 120 MB in 3.02 seconds = 39.73 MB/sec
4. Test Scenario:
-- Very similar results, fairly low load
Send messages to 100 users, 10 messages per connection . The message is
test.msg included in mpp kit.
Delay between launching another connection 1.5 seconds.

1. Amavis wih clamascan as scanner -- unacceptable .. Sendmail get
killed, most messages dropped

2. Amavis with clamd as scanner: .. 25 messages were not accepted
because the server was overloaded
- no warning messages
- time: 2m31.684s

3. MPP with ClamAV as scanner:
3.1. timeout between connections 1.5 seconds
- processing_threads = 5
- virus_scaner = clamav
- no warning messages
- time: 2m10.361s 0 dropped messages
In this test using Sendmail albeit, AmavisD could not complete the
tests at all, just timed out the milter and dropped over 70% of email
once the milter timed out.

3.2. timeout between connections 0.5 seconds
- processing_threads = 5
- virus_scaner = clamav
- no warning messages
- time: 0m51.231s
Emperically we have many customers who see significant load drops when
using our product with Clam over perl alternatives. We have references
for this and it is easy to prove in your own environment. Small
servers will benefit from ease use and completeness of the management
interface, large customers will see a significant load decrease when
using MPP over other alternatives.

[Clamav-users] RAR module failure w/ 1 MB file in 0.75.1

2004-08-19 Thread Rob Kudyba
We're using ClamAV libraries, version 0.75.1, linked in the MPP product,
with CGP. The file downloadable from
ftp://herbie.raeinternet.com/pub/parkeer.rar, generates the following error:
RAR module failure

Using a command line scanner which incorporates ClamAV we see this:
[10:49:50] 6 [51712] [CgpEnvelopeLoadJob] {parkeer.rar} Envelope-1: Rar!
[10:49:50] 6 [51712] [CgpEnvelopeLoadJob] {parkeer.rar} Envelope-2:

?`E ?bPQQ
[10:49:50] 6 [51712] [CgpEnvelopeLoadJob] {parkeer.rar} Envelope-3:
?]|?w???#??-e?u???o?
[10:49:50] 2 [51712] [Thread] basic_string::resize

I would've submitted it for analysis but it's a 1.7 MB file and the web
page submission does not accept files over 1 MB...

[Clamav-users] Freshclam error: libclamav.1.dylib (No such file or directory, errno = 2)

2004-05-07 Thread Rob Kudyba
On OS X 10.2.2, trying to run Freshclam after a successful install of
ClamAV...test runs fine too. But running the freshclam updater results in:
/usr/local/bin/freshclam
dyld: /usr/local/bin/freshclam can't open library:
/usr/local/lib/libclamav.1.dylib (No such file or directory, errno = 2)
Trace/BPT trap

And the libclamav.1.dylib file is not in /usr/local/lib

Any suggestions?

Thanks.
