[GSoC] Typed Overtone proposal

2015-03-21 Thread Christopher Medrela
Hello! As you may remember I wanted to work at Source meta information
model
project during Google Summer of Code this year, but I've decided to switch
to
typed Overtone project because there was already another student (Richard)
who wanted to work at the same project. I believe that Clojure community
will
benefit more if we work at different projects.

What I'd like to do this summer is:

1) Writing excellent tutorial make Overtone less harsh. While there are some
topical guides and incomplete reference, there is no introductory
tutorial.
And Overtone requires also some musical knowledge. I believe that if we
lower the entry barrier, Overtone can became a Clojure killer app that
will
   foster Clojure adoption.

2) Typing Overtone to stress core.typed and find its limits.

You can find my proposal at github [1]. If you have some thoughts, feedback
or
criticism, feel free to share it!

Chris (and anyone else), Daniel mentioned to me in a note that it is ok
for multiple students to submit a proposal for the same project. We do not
know how many spots we will be given as an organization and whether

I think I was a bit incorrect in my understanding of the process and you
would still be welcome to submit a proposal with the caveat that there are
no guarantees that any particular proposal will move forward.

OK, but will you be able to mentor two students at the same time? Google
warns
that it's easy to underestimate how much time mentoring takes.

BTW, I found typed Overtone project which I found equally interesting as
this
one. And I think that Clojure community will benefit much more when two
students work at different projects. So I will stick with typed overtone.

[GSoC] Source meta information model proposal

2015-03-16 Thread Christopher Medrela
Hello! My name is Christopher Medrela and I'd like to work at source
metadata
information model project mentored by Alex Miller at Google Summer of
Code. I
hope that this mailing list is the right place to discuss such projects (if
I'm
wrong, correct me).

I'd like to introduce some standard of source meta information model to
represent the code from the API perspective. There exist a lot of tools like
codox, autodoc, Grimoire, ClojureDocs, crosscls.info and so on. Each of
these
tools has some repetitive code responsible for extracting this kind of
information.

I'd like to discuss what the model should be and from which tasks you will
benefit most? You can find the model and tasks proposal in model schema
and
tasks (deliverables) sections in my [proposal] draft. I'd like to emphasis
that the tasks list is very highly inspired by Alex Miller.

Re: [GSoC] Mentors contact information

2015-03-12 Thread Christopher Medrela
Alex, Ambrose, thank you for quick answer. I'll contact you soon. I'm sorry
for
overlooking your mail, Ambrose.

By the way, I can read at student application guidelines in project
information section [1]:

GSoC officially runs from 19 May–22 Aug, a period of 14 weeks.

while the official GSoC website says [2]:

25 May: Students begin coding for their Google Summer of Code projects;
17 August: Suggested 'pencils down' date
21 August 19:00 UTC: Firm 'pencils down' date.

[GSoC] Mentors contact information

2015-03-09 Thread Christopher Medrela
Hello!

My name is Christopher Medrela. I'm interested in participating in GSoC
this year. I've looked at the ideas page and I think that I'd like to work
at:

* source metadata information model (mentored by Alex Miller)
* or one of typed clojure projects (mentored by Ambrose Bonnaire-Sergeant).

Could you share with me contact information to these mentors?

Best regards!
