Stus-List Hull# (HIN) for 34+
Hi Dave, My 1990 34+ does have the + in the Hin number. It's imprinted on the Hull that way and it's in the boat's official USCG docs as well (Here: http://www.st.nmfs.noaa.gov/pls/webpls/cgv_pkg.vessel_id_list ) My Hin is ZCC34+34B090. It did create a little bit of a fuss with the insurance as the unorthodox HIN was coming-up as 'Invalid with their computer interface. My agent got around that by insuring it on agree value and checking out a couple other comparable boats on Yachtworld. The broker also mentioned that the HIN was unconventional but that's just the way CC did it on their 36 ft 34+ :-) Please feel free to ask more on questions on the list or PM me for more info on the boat, what to look for on a purchase, etc. Good luck with it. Regards, -Francois Rivard 1990 34+ Take Five Lake Lanier, GA Just had a survey done on a '90 34+ yesterday, looks good but one bit of weirdness: the HIN has a + symbol in it, which HIN decoders say is invalid. The HIN starts off ZCC34+ Can anyone else with a 34+ verify that this is what their HIN looks like? Re: Stus-List Are original LF38 thru hulls in contact with coring?
Well that settles that, the thruhulls in the bow are not cored (under the v-berth and behind the water tank) . Solid fiberglass it looks like. Pic: (uploaded since attachments don't get through to the list): http://svviolethour.com/?attachment_id=247 Note the innermost layer is the plywood backing plate, next comes some white caulking that it was glued on with, then the hull. This pic is from before I finished cleaning all the white glue off the fiberglass. Not sure if the turquoise blue outer layer is the original gelcoat color, or a barrier coat. I was surprised, but this saves some work. The old transducer was a bear to get out (had to cut it out). On Wed, May 20, 2015 at 5:28 PM, Jake Brodersen captain_j...@cox.net wrote: Patrick, I replaced the thru-hull for my knot meter this year. My first haul out is coming up in 3 weeks, just for a few days to do some small tasks like unsticking a seized seacock and maybe installing a new speed transducer (old Datamarine one is somewhat broken). I've read Wally's site cover to cover and know he redid his thru hulls reaming out some core and filling with epoxy (and even glassing over). But were all model years constructed without that done or did later CCs start sealing their thru hulls better? It's surprising to me that they wouldn't have protected the core out of the factory. Do I need to inspect all thru hulls or only prior-owner installed ones? I might postpone this till the fall since it'll be a big job, just wondering if it's worth pulling one now (even that I don't expect to be easy). If all cored CCs were installed with coring abutting the thruhull, I'm surprised it doesn't sound like everyone has redone them (it looks like only 2 or 3 people have asked about it on the list - although more may have done it). Or is the concern overdone? From the standpoint of don't mess with it if it ain't broke maybe it's better to just do nothing. Except that the plywood backing plates are wet/decayed, so eventually I'll need to at least do something with those (which may or may not involve replacing the seacock and thruhull too). -Patrick 1984 LF38 Violet Hour Seattle, WA ___ Email address: CnC-List@cnc-list.com To change your list preferences, including unsubscribing -- go to the bottom of page at: http://cnc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/cnc-list_cnc-list.com
Stus-List Made it home!
Well, after several trips back and forth from Sarnia to Muskegon, we made the trip. Travelled over a week ago Friday and after a weather delay, set out Monday June 1. A bit rough on Lake Michigan and after 13 hours we put up in Ludington for the night, cold wet and tired. Had a great dinner in an Irish pub. figured out that autohlem won't work unless all the wires are plugged in. and were on our way at the crack of 10 am headed for Mac. 25 hours and a beautiful moonlit night later (greys reef at sun-up) we arrived and overnighted in mackinaw city. Thursday and Friday were spent on Lake Huron where we saw most conditions, fog, wind, rain, fog again, no sunshine and lots of jumbled waves. Arrived in Sarnia a bit before midnight Friday. US coastguard had squall warning and later a thunderstorm warning on Friday. We added a little automotive heater I had picked up at Princess auto that took the chill out of the cabin and made it MUCH more comfortable. Engine ran flawlessly and the instruments all worked well once we got things dialled and plugged in. We're real happy with our CC. I think our biggest issue was slippage in the throttle linkage which we solved with a short piece of cord to hold the throttle position and one of the rope clutches continued to slip so we cleated the main halyard. Is there a dry lube that can be used on the sliding parts of the spinlock rope clutches? Thanks for your help and suggestions this spring. Get a teenager to do it. Much lighter and less knowledgable. The teenager will love the ride up the mast and will have a great conversation with you from the mast top to the deck.
