Stus-List Coastal Marine WiFi system

2015-09-12 Thread Frederick G Street via CnC-List
Hello, listers. I had an off-list query regarding the best WiFi system out
there, to allow better reception in minimal signal areas, and the ability to
use a router to distribute WiFi to devices onboard. Without a doubt, the best
that I’ve seen so far for our size vessel would be the Coastal Marine WiFi
system:

http://www.coastalmarinewifi.com

Ben Ellison of Panbo did a recent review of these systems:

http://www.panbo.com/archives/2015/06/coastal_marine_wifi_a_winner.html

As a result of this query, I am now set up as a reseller of these great
systems. If anyone would like more info, please contact me off-list at
f...@postaudio.net .

Now back to our regularly-scheduled discussion on foredeck livestock… :^)

Hello all. Working through the details of my winter electronics upgrade and am
trying to select a standalone nmea 2000 GPS receiver. (Like Garmin 19x,
raymarine rs130). I cannot find any comparisons or reviews, has anyone been
down this path? Thanks!

Re: Stus-List cleaning the tank

2015-09-12 Thread svpegasus38
There is some stuff called Marine Clean by Por15 that works great as a
solvent. Also I used a fuel tank cleaner and sealer back when I built my old
truck. Don't remember what it was though. Do you have a clean-out port? Maybe a
radiator shop could clean it.

Dave — take a look at the Simrad GS25 GPS sensor:
http://www.simrad-yachting.com/en-US/Products/GPS/GS25-en-us.aspx

Priced under $200. It comes with a 15-foot NMEA2000 cable and Micro connector
to plug into a ”T” on a standard NMEA2k backbone.

A nice bonus is the fast 10Hz heading data you get out of the onboard magnetic
compass; if you don’t have an autopilot to supply fast heading data, this will
still allow you to do reliable radar overlay on your plotter.

Joel,

I replaced all of my panel lights about 7 years ago with LEDs and had to order
a larger quantity than I needed so still have extras. I have about 20 of the
120 volt and about 12 of the 12 volt. You’re welcome to them if you’d like,
just let me know.

My 120 volt lights are 5/16 diameter, my 12 v lights are 1/4 inch diameter but
are soldered. Luckily I only need 2 reds, so not too many crimps.

thanks for the digikey link. Prices are all over the place!

Put in the diameter you need and see what comes up.

Once you identify a manufacturer you may be able to find the same part
cheaper elsewhere.

Re: Stus-List mast step on 1985 C 37

2015-09-12 Thread Chuck S via CnC-List
Mike,
Welcome aboard.

Before your trip, be sure to have an anchor ready to deploy, fenders and
docklines, too.

I wouldn't worry a lot about mast rake. Some C do well with 12" to 18" mast
rake. That's the distance between the back of the mast at the gooseneck to a
main halyard hanging straight down, with a weight.

Fuel filters: Several sources informed me to use 30 micron for primary and 10
micron for secondary filters. The diesel eats the smaller stuff. Your 10 mile
trip will require 3 gallons of fuel, so consider running the engine from a
jerry can for that trip. Stick the pickup hose into a 5 gallon jerry can
secured on the saloon floor.

Hi All, I’m new to the list, as my 37 is a new boat to me. C’s are not too
common out west here, this one was trucked from Maryland last summer.

Just splashed her after some 5 years on the hard, just about to try starting
the engine tomorrow, even though I’m sure the tank is full of algae. The racor
was full of black jello, but the fuel coming in from the tank after the
clean-out looks pretty OK. Probably as long as it doesn’t slosh around. I have
installed a new filter element in the Racor, but it’s a dinky little 2 micron
and will undoubtedly clog quickly. All I have to go is 10 miles down a river to
get to my marina from the yard, hopefully with two spare filter elements we’ll
make it? Then maybe I’ll try to remove and clean out the tank. It sounds like
that is the only recourse.

Anyway, the yard stepped the mast before I acquired the boat, and they put it
right in the center of the aluminum box full of 1/4” plastic shims that were in
there. It looks like it’s raked really far, the backstay is fully adjusted, to
the max, like no more room in the turnbuckle, and that doesn’t seem right
either. Don’t know if there is any adjustment possible on the headstay because
the furler is over the turnbuckle, assuming there is one. The mast-shaped
cut-out in the forward end of the table is also several inches from being snug
around the mast, which also doesn’t seem right.

Can anyone tell me what the proper rake should be, if the headstay is
adjustable, and, unless this is really the way it’s supposed to be, suggest how
I can get the mast to scoot a few inches aft in that interesting box system it
has for a mast step?

Thanks in advance,

Mike Fulmor
