Re: Stus-List 39 not selling

2018-06-15 Thread james via CnC-List
That is definitely an aftermarket keel! The original 39 keel was swept
back and had a 6' 3" draft. My family had a 39 that had been similarly
modified. It was extremely fast upwind but had too much weather helm and
needed a much bigger rudder. The 39 sailed best when it was highly
loaded (sail and heel-wise) but it rounded up way too easily with the
Doug Peterson style keel.

Is it the deep draft? I would need to chop 3-1/2 feet off that keel to
get into my slip.

Stus-List Battery Monitor

2018-06-15 Thread Edd Schillay via CnC-List
Listers,

As I mentioned before, I’m looking to replace the old Heart Interface Link2000
battery monitor installed by the previous owner.

I picked up a cheap DROK unit off of Amazon, but the quality isn’t great and I
can’t see it lasting all that long. (You get what you pay for).

Anyone have any experience with the Blue Sea M2 SoC Battery Monitor?

Pros? Cons?

All the best,

Hi Joe

That is Randy Stevens boat Ceilidh. It had been listed as Sail Pending a few
months ago so it looks like the deal did not go through. In Baddeck the draft
is not a problem nor was it in Halifax when it was here or even Mahone Bay
where it was before he took it to Baddeck. I think Randy moved on to a nice
power yacht which is why Ceilidh is for sale

I will say that this boat was very well maintained all of the years he has had
it and has an excellent reputation. I would think age rather than draft would
be the biggest inhibitor to a sale.

No traveler at all! Nor genoa tracks, for that matter. This might be a good
opportunity to add a main traveler. Guests really like that area, though, so
that's a trade off. We don't race, and I haven't missed the genoa tracks all

my tractor. I sandblasted, treated the metal with OSPHO(SIC), and
encapsulated it in epoxy, and then faired it. I over drilled the hole for the
pin and inserted a piece of UHMWP as a bearing It works much better now.

Re: Stus-List Help on installing accumulator tank on 33-2

2018-06-15 Thread Doug Welch via CnC-List
Thanks. Replacing all water lines on my list but probably a winter job. Under
my galley sink there is a line that draws from the tank and runs through a
strainer. Is that the suction strainer you are referring to? There is also some
tees and valves. One valve seems to control water coming from the tank and the
other seems to control water going to a foot pump in the galley. We leave both
valves open (not really knowing until recently what they controlled). Could it
be that the air is being introduced through the foot pump?

The grey tubing is called Polybutyl or PB and was made by Qest.  The fittings

Ray,

What brand and series of instruments are these? Do you know if it is NMEA 0183
or 2000? That will make some difference as to how the power is hooked up and
routed.

I would start simple though. Do you have a dedicated breaker or switch for the
instruments? The place to start by making sure you have power coming off the
terminals in your electrical panel. Trace those wires as best you can to find
what is on the other end. You likely have an issue somewhere in that main
power feed since multiple things are not working.

Where do you keep your boat? I am in the south section of McKinley so I might
be able to help you at some point. Hoping to spend some time down there this
weekend beyond racing tonight, but not sure what my schedule is yet.

Re: Stus-List C 25 II - mast step concerns

2018-06-15 Thread Stephen Kidd via CnC-List
With the explanations in mind, I took a more informed look at the mast
step. First, I removed the plastic hole covers from the coach room. I poked
around with a paper clip and it is definitely epoxied in there. The other
forward one was cleaner and also only epoxy visible. The aft holes showed
no signs of any water/leaks and also epoxy.

This seemed a little odd, so I went back to the deck. I confirmed that
there are no noticable soft spots or delamination. It seems firmer,
somehow, than other areas of the deck. Taking a step back, I noticed the
outline of a repair (easily 4' x 3'). I knew portions of the hull had been
repaired, but not the mast step.

At any rate, I'm going to better seal the fittings, and start rebedding the
deck hardware (not much). I do have a soft spot in the cockpit near the
companionway. We're going to apply the repair advice to that area, which is
also a lot less intimidating, and keep a very close eye on the mast step
for now. What fun!
