If you have fast frosting after you start the system, the compressor or a leak
might not be the problem, have you replaced the evaporator too 3 years ago?
Then can clog and give you uneven frosting. I heard that some people/ pro can
clean/purge them, but once it stats it might happen again and should be
replaced.

Hello All!
I’m new to this list and am really not sure how it works (or if I’ve set it up
at all correctly)
My name is Tom and I’m in shelter island N.Y.
I’ve recently purchased an 1982 landfall 35 and am having the most horrific
time with the rudder.
The helm was pretty free when I first inspected the boat (I was able to easily
swing the rudder by hand from the ground)
However, during the time the boat was in the yard, whenever I came back to the
steering it seemed stiffer but I was caught up in other goals and didn’t pay
enough mind so did nothing.
Now though, with the boat in the water it takes a tremendous amount of force to
move the rudder at all. I’ve troubleshot and disconnected the Edson helm and
after making a sling have attempted to drop the rudder to see if it’s bent but
it won’t budge. I’m currently injecting penetrating oil where possible and
manipulating the rudder with the emergency tiller. I’ve already spoken with
the c and c guys in Canada whom, after hearing me out, thought it was an
interesting problem.
I too am interested and am looking for help.

Assailant's keel weight is listed in it's build file as 6,885 lbs so it was
lightened about 500 lbs from the stock 7,250 lbs. at the factory, probably
by using sand occlusions up high in the casting. Here is a drawing of what

Re: Stus-List Mast paint

I used Brightside on mine.

Rolled and tipped. 3 coats.

Sanded the original anodised mast right down to full metal. Etched with WEST 2
part etc (No longer available) then primed with Zinc Chromate (No longer
available)

All of the “No longer available” I happened to find old stock around, with
folks who didn’t know it has been banned.

Looks amazing and has been up for 3 years with no problem.

Brightside is not hard like the epoxy paint that Akzo Nobel sell, but It was
straightforward to apply, once I learned to really, really thin it, and keep a
wet edge.

A few dings, of course, with the yellow chromate showing through till I touch
it up.

Awl grip is easy to bush on with great results. You may want to have a helper
painting the other side of the mast at the same time, but that's true of any
paint. I would certainly use Awl Grip. Just make sure you're in a a non dusty
part of the yard. Not that it really matters, all you're going to see is the
bottom 8 feet of the mast.

Hi Noah,

We bought our 37/40 in Ontario back in 2010 and sailed it down the St.
Lawrence to Cape Breton Island where we live. We have the 8' 2" Deep Fin
Keel, same as yours. We had zero issues with this depth of keel, anywhere
we went on that trip and only occasionally since. Where are you going to
use the boat that you need to shorten the keel? Just curious.

I'm quite please with the deep keel actually, I'm glad we held out for one
when we were searching for a boat.

By the way, your boat has had a few different names over the years,
including: 'Painkiller Two', 'Hippy Chick', and 'Lake Effect'. I prefer '
Assailant'.

Stus-List Mast paint

2018-07-13 Thread svrebeccaleah via CnC-List
I am getting to repaint the mast on my 1988 LF39. Does anyone on here have a
clue what paint C uses on their spars? The local chandlery suggested Interlux
Brightside, not knowing what is currently on there. Any help would be
appreciated. Thanks in advanceDoug

My advice is don't. You're undertaking a considerable project to cruise a boat
that was not built to be a cruiser. IMO you'll be happier finding a
racer/cruiser boat that fits you needs and sailing grounds. Retain the value
of the 37R for someone looking to race. I find my 37+ (tall rig, wing keel) to
be tender and frequently wonder if a deeper keel would beneficial.

If you insist on proceeding then I would make sure that to modify to the
largest torpedo bulb possible and draft to 6 or 6.5 feet.

2018-07-13 Thread Len Mitchell via CnC-List
Sorry about the blank reply earlier!!!

Noah, X 3 re a Mars bulb. The only thing I would caution you about is the 37R
keel, from what I have read, some of the 37Rs had voids in the keel filled with
sand and/or filler to reduce weight. I think I would sound your keel with a
small hammer to make sure it is solid before you commit to a certain size
(weight) bulb. Mars may have records of your boat if they supplied the original
lead keel. Also consider the rudder depth, no point having your rudder deeper
than your keel or you could find bottom rudder first!

One reason people like traction batteries (golf cart, floor sweeper, etc) is
that they have decent life down to 80% discharge. A start battery like a car

Yup – 1 amp for one hour is 1 AH.
There is a reason for the 25 amp rate. A 200 amp hour battery will, in theory,
provide 200 amps for 1 hour or 1 amp for 200 hours. In real life that does not
work, at 200 amps you would get less than one hour and at 1 amp you would get

Forgot to add:
CCA is cold cranking amps – the max current you can get (briefly) into a dead
short at 0 degrees F.
MCCA is marine cold cranking amps – the same thing at 32 degrees F.
A small lithium battery can have hundreds of cranking amps while only being
about 10 AH.

Subject: Stus-List 455 minutes at 25 amps...

I'm still stuck in the old school amp hours capacity. And my new batteries are
telling me 455 minutes at 25 amps. Could someone better at this basic concept
help me equate this information to amp hour capacity? Rey to set my amp/volt
meter.
Thanks in advance.
