If your insurance policy hull coverage says"agreed value", that's what the
insurance company should pay you, not what other boats sell for, even if
they sell for less than the agreed value. If your insurance policy hull
coverage says "replacement cost", then they'll use whatever an identical
boat would sell for.

You can get some useful info from the NADA Guides. For example, a 1980 C

Breathtaking views from the lake, but get used to shifty if not swirling winds

I got another AH-4000 from FleaBay. It was advertised as being a backup hardly
used in great condition. Well…….not really. It did look nice, not much sun
fading, but two rollers were broken in the drive. I know how to fix these, but
took an easier way out and combined this drive with two other spare ones I have
and used the best parts from each plus a new belt. I went out for a test sail
Saturday and the new drive worked great. No more having to bungee-cord the
lever!
On to the course computer, I did some checking and the new one is wired
BACKWARDS from the old one. AutoHelm did a change at some point and swapped the
power and motor drive connections in the plug that connects to the boat. This
is the oddest thing to do and now if I rewire the plug for the new computer the
old one won’t work. Argh……….. I so wanted to be able to swap computers
too and have a whole standby autopilot on the boat.

Not sure where you're located, but here's a 36.

Re: Stus-List Help

2019-04-01 Thread Chuck Gilchrest via CnC-List
Bruce,

Trying to assess a “replacement” figure on your 36 is purely market and
condition driven. You can find C 36s in sailable condition on Yachtworld
ranging in price from $15-60K depending on year, model, and how well they’re
outfitted. If your insurance company has yet to make a settlement to repair
or replace, I would echo the other folks’ opinions that it would be much more
reasonable to seek a replacement boat than to spend months of labor and a
massive amount of cash to refurbish a boat that was submerged or full of water
for an extended period of time. For my money, I’d want to try to get enough
from the insurance settlement to buy a boat like this Landfall 38 which would
be an excellent choice for a liveaboard. I am not associated with this listing
but only using it as an example:

Best of luck!

Re: Stus-List [EXTERNAL] Help

2019-04-01 Thread Della Barba, Joe via CnC-List
I am confused. Do you want to fix a boat or buy a boat?
A badly damaged older boat will usually cost a lot more to repair than it would
cost to just buy another one.
The original 36 (not the 110 or 34/36) seems to run around $20K to $30K.
Extensive repairs would cost 3 or 4 times that.

Terribly sorry for your loss. The repair cost is beyond justification.
Replacement boats can be readily found in a wide range of conditions and
prices but $50k to $75k is probably in the ballpark.
