Mast Tuning

The difference in speed on a port or starboard tack is probably down to
wind sheer. This means that on one tack the wind is freer at the top of the
sail on your good tack and headed on the bad tack. On the bad tack reduce
the twist in the mainsail by letting your traveler down a little bit and
tightening the mainsheet. On the good tack increasing twist may help even
more.

When I was boat shopping a few years back here on Lake Ontario, 34’s were 
fairly common and could easily be had for less than C$20k.  More needy examples 
quite a bit less, especially if a broker is not involved.  I doubt the price 
has changed much.
