Re: Stus-List Removing very old sealant
Hi Matthew, Yes 3M makes a really good adhesive remover with several form factors like spray on and by the gal., and someone on this list many years ago suggested white gas. I believe both suggestions were after many hours of elbow grease, removing about four years of duck tape gook while my handrail project loitered behind the sofa. I hope you find suggestions that work for you before your chisel is dull. . . Keep us posted on your experiments! Thanks, Lee Simplicity/Seattle > On Sep 5, 2019, at 7:44 55PM, Matthew L. Mineral spirits did not work immediately, but may work if I allow it to work for a while. I did not want to do so until consulting with you folks. Will the gel coat be okay if I pour some mineral spirits on the area and let it sit for several hours? I also remember someone mentioning diesel fuel. I have the same question re: letting it soak. I also tried mineral spirits and Goo Gone, but neither seemed to help. I can scratch it off with a pick, but this method is very time-consuming. Stus-List Removing very old sealant
Listers: I recently removed two old stainless deck mounts for a reaching strut. Given the style of the deck mounts, I believe they were original to the boat (1976). Remarkably, no evidence of leaks in all that time. The sealant that was used appears to be the same grey butyl material that was used for the deck-to-hull joint, except it is no longer flexible. In addition, it is worked into the non-skid and difficult to remove. Stus-List Landfall 35 - Manual
I'm a new owner of an 84 Landfall 35 traditional cabin layout! Does anyone know if there is a decent manual for it? I didn't see one on the C&C site. Stus-List Dive boat fire
Paul, you can usually wire the propane detector to shut off the propane solenoid if it senses fuel. I am shopping for an automatic fire extinguisher for the engine compartment that uses a non corrosive extinguishing agent. An automatic engine shut down device is recommended. Sea-fire makes an automatic marine extinguisher for $218 USD at West Marine that will service 25 cubic feet and the 50 cubic foot is $255. The Sea-fire has a NC switch and I am thinking of wiring the M35 electric lift pump through the NC switch. Another good reason to attend the mid Atlantic rendezvous next month, they are an absolutely ridiculous price in Canada.
