I thought my 30-2 came equipped with an extendable hose faucet in the head so
you could shower there. There is a shower grate and separate sump and pump.
I just checked on board and I now have a standard faucet. Was I imagining
things or was there a faucet with a hose that retracted into the locker under
the sink? Can I get a replacement?

As to the faucet with shower head attachment, take a look at RV versions.
There are plenty available out there.  A friend of mind had a broken connection
at the shower head hose attachment to the back of the faucett, and bought a RV
replacement for about $25.  Turns out it was made by the same manufacturer as
the one that was in his Tartan.Food for thought,Bruce Sent from Samsung tablet.

This is really good discussion and the drawings are a terrific resource for
the 36XL and 37/40+ owners.

The design of the centerboard on the C 36-1 KCB of the 1980's vintage is
different. The "board" is really more of a blade, not nearly as elegant, but it
is also quite heavy and takes a similar amount of resolve to raise it up. I
haven't heard if pendant failure causes similar destruction. Mine failed once
at the dock with apparently no issues.

I would love to see drawings for the 36-1 KCB. I'm planning to call that
library up north that has C build files, but it keeps slipping down the list.
Soon, I believe I will need to replace the metal pendant tube that goes from
the cabin top to the centerboard well. It appears to be worn through at the
lower radius, which is below the waterline.

Fabrication drawings for the pendant tube on a 1980's vintage 36-1 KCB would
be really helpful. Has anyone seen those?

Re: Stus-List 37+ lights and head

2019-10-03 Thread Allen Miles via CnC-List
I thought my 30-2 came equipped with an extendable hose faucet in the head
so you could shower there. There is a shower grate and separate sump and
pump.

I just checked on board and I now have a standard faucet. Was I imagining
things or was there a faucet with a hose that retracted into the locker
under the sink? Can I get a replacement?

We did that for a few years and The saltwater still sits in the input head
hoses and the head still smelled. A full on fresh water flush us requires. We
"T"ed it off the head sink drain. No issues with a possible back flow valve
failure and the resultant ick.

I went as far as putting in a y selector on the intake hose for the head and
plumbing it the to fresh water tank with a back flow preventer so that the head
flushed with fresh water. That is easier than using the sprayer for flushing.
There is a little more resistance when in wet flush mode but it works great and
has really cut down on odor (along with replacing hoses). Of course we are at
a dock so filling the fresh water tank more often isn’t a big deal. I put the y
valve in so that for longer trips it can be switched back to seawater if
desired.

Listers For us Canadians, Thanksgiving celebrations are just a few days away.
And it is time to get out your spooky costumes and go scare the neighbours. But
most important, October has been traditionally the fund raising month for this

mega-bucks and kept your yacht floating for a few more years. The bills keep

Re: Stus-List Smelly head

2019-10-03 Thread David Risch via CnC-List

I put the y
valve in so that for longer trips it can be switched back to seawater if
desired.

Re: Stus-List Raymarine to octopus drive upgrade

2019-10-03 Thread Bruce Whitmore via CnC-List
Hello all,
While I might get roundly criticized for this, we had an old hydraulic
autopilot that had died and needed to be replaced.  I think it might have been
a Navtech.  It was connected to an Octopus hydraulic ram, and it had a small
control box mounted on the ram itself.  I was told by Octopus that the ram
would not be compatible with new autopilots, and was specific to the old
system, so I was looking at having to replace the ram as well as the brains of
the unit.

I went with the Raymarine EV-100.

As I started to look at the ram, I removed the little control box and found
that the wires and circuit board eventually resulted in 2 pins going into the
ram.  So, I tried simply created a pin connector and ran the resulting wires
back to the control box on the EV-100.  Works perfectly.
So, I did not have to replace the ram.
If you don't have a ram in place now, this won't help but...

Looking to upgrade my Raymarine EV100/p70/acu100/ wheel drive to a below-deck
linear actuator.    Octopus has an electric linear drive that appears to be a
good choice for the tight confines of a 33-2

http://octopusdrives.com/products/type-rs-sailboat-drives/

Looks like I?d need the drive and a tiller arm.

Any suggestions as to a source for the tiller arm?

Wondering if the acu-100 is compatible with the octopus type RS?

Has anyone done this conversion?   Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Dave

Stus-List Smelly head

2019-10-03 Thread Della Barba, Joe via CnC-List
The worst smell is when the boat is sitting and all the algae in the *intake
line* rots. Then the first time you pump it the smell could knock a buzzard off
a septic tank truck.
One stopgap for smelly hoses is to get tea tree oil and spray the hoses down
with it. It does a decent job killing organic odors. If you want to be
scientific, bubbling oxygen through the holding tank would be a help too.
Anaerobic bacteria have an output of hydrogen sulfide and aerobic bacteria do
not.

 Tim, if they're still operational the Museum of he Great Lakes has the specs;
I obtained the drawings for my 37 and it included a very specific diagram of
the centerboard arrangement; I would bet that the 36 specs do alsolet me
know if you need the links

This is really good discussion and the drawings are a terrific resource for the
36XL and 37/40+ owners.

Fabrication drawings for the pendant tube on a 1980's vintage 36-1 KCB would be
really helpful. Has anyone seen those?

There is a lady named "Peggy Hall" that is active on one of the online boating
forums. She is nicknamed the "Head Mistress" and has written a book about
marine heads and head odors.

One of her tips is to use a cloth dipped in hot water. Touch it against the
thing you think may be the source of the odor for a short time, then smell it.
For hoses, wrap it around the hose. That should help you nail down the source
of the odor.

As someone said, even the best head hoses don't Las forever, especially if any
black water rests in them for any length of time.

You can flush with sea water all day long, but use the fresh water as the last
flush of the day, before leaving the boat. This should prevent any smell from
the bowl itself.

Even the good read expensive hose smells bad after a while. If yours is still
original it's probably due to be replaced. Possibly the tank as well. I've
heard it is better to use fresh water from the head faucet to flush rather than
sea water too. What we did to get rid of the smells was to yank all of it out
and go with a composting head. So far so good. Good luck.
