Stus-List Rudder post bearing for 33ii

2021-03-29 Thread Dave S via CnC-List
So, Mike and me was talkin’.

Both our boats have had the rudder post bearing replaced - I was fortunate to
have an almost intact original and was able to fabricate a pretty good
replacement - mike was not so lucky and has a serviceable but temporary
solution in play.
I would like to create (really, have someone more digitally capable create) an
accurate drawing and maybe make up a few of these.
My original is broken into two segments and is therefore not the best choice as
a pattern.
It is very hard to measure this accurately with the rudder post installed.
Does have a drawing or any thoughts about creating one? This would be shared
amongst the collective of course!

Stus-List Re: 40 or 41?

2021-03-29 Thread Dave S via CnC-List
When fixing the keel-filler issue on my 33ii I was told that the 35iii and 41
were built the same way and are each prone to the same issue. So beware of
that. The 41 is gorgeous, though I believe many had quite deep draft so this
could be a concern and add to the comparison.
If it sails like it looks - like a big fast 33ii - it would be a blast!

I would be a little more partial to the 41, but it would take several
look-sees.

With 80’s boats, you have to be on guard for the polyester, as there were so
many problems with blistering then.

I heard of a 37/40 south of Tampa that was being marked way down – probably
take your boat in as a trade!

Is there any clear advantage to the 41 over the 40 or vice versa?

After the glue dries use a  Sharp chisel to level, a little sandpaper and the

I'd always been told it's better to set bungs (the plugs) by dipping them in
varnish before tapping them into place. That way, the varnish will act as a
waterproofer and semi-adhesive, but then they can be removed easily next time.
With glue they would need to be drilled out.

Stus-List Re: Leaving interior Teak natural?

2021-03-29 Thread dwight veinot via CnC-List
There is a lot of interior teak on your 35MKII. The interior finish was a
large part of my decision nearly 20 years ago to buy a MKII and not a MKI
35. My interior teak gets lemon oil once a year if I remember and feel
energetic. Alianna is a 1974 model so 47 years old this year and looking
great. I will never coat it with varnish or urethane. I did update the
sliding cabinet closures with dark plexi and more modern looking handles.
One of my favourite pass times is sitting at the nav table enjoying music
and refreshments on the mooring and admiring the interior marine carpentry

I cut holes to install my cockpit speakers. Then found out I really did not
like music in the cockpit while under sail. The speaker grills now serve as
vents. I am happy to listen to music in the cabin.
