2022-02-03 Thread Rick Brass via CnC-List

My 8:47 message below was sent as plain text, which seems to confirm Joe's
observation that HTML (and rich text, BTW) get converted to an attachment
but plain text goes through as composed.

On a related note, which may serve to help identify when the system change
occurred, I was going through all the messages about the cutting boards this
evening - I've not had a chance to order mine yet - and noted that all the
original message stream (which started with a message from Stu on 1/10/22 at
1:47pm) were readable as complete messages. On 1/26/22 at 2:52PM, after a
total of 20 perfectly readable messages, the first message with an HTML
attachment appeared. Since that date 5 of the 7 messages have appeared as
HTML attachments.

Perhaps an approximate date for the change will help identify what is going
on.

Sent in plain text format so you software types can read this. I hope.

vary by what device I use. On our two iphones( iphone 7 and SE) no body, on

everything, no real consistency on what device works best.
Hope the ramblings make sense.

We will admit that our first aid kits on board are extensive.  Mostly because
you never know if you or a fellow cruiser will need your help.  We sail the
west coast of Florida. My suggestion is to put in a triangle bandage, gauze &
tape (but blue tape or duck tape works too hold on gauze) and eye wash kit. We
carry a sm suture kit just in case & plenty of Capt Morgan to deaden the pain.
I know I have a suggested list somewhere and will hopefully find it and pay. We
have our kids in everything from an toolboxes to medical bags.

Stus-List Re: First Aid Kit (inland & coastal)

2022-02-03 Thread Marek Dziedzic via CnC-List

I am far from being an expert in this area.

I think that various bandaids, adhesive tape etc. are the most important. What
you listed make a lot of sense.

Practical Sailor run some evaluations for FAKs. Here is a link:
https://www.practical-sailor.com/safety-seamanship/medical-kits-for-onboard-first-aid?amp=1.
 And another:
https://www.practical-sailor.com/safety-seamanship/off-the-shelf-medical-kits?amp=1.
 And another:
https://www.practical-sailor.com/safety-seamanship/medical-kits-for-coastal-cruising?amp=1.

All of these articles are a bit dated (2008 and 2001), but the needs should not
have changed that much.

Btw. These reviews show that price is not a good indicator of quality.

An ad popped up on FB for a "boaters" first aid kit for a ridiculous
price of $200+. The wee orange Pelican box was probably half the cost,
but I digress.

Concerning inland and coastal sailing, it made me wonder what should be
in a marine FAK? From my limited experience, I'd say the items that it
should cover are (to start):

Fingers getting smashed/pinched (band-aids)
Rope burns
Cuts/scrapes
Headache/nausea
Dehydration
Exposure (heat related)
Sun protection (sunscreen)

Any thoughts?

The bigger the boat, the greater potential for serious injury. For example,
with a larger boat used for cruising, burns from an onboard fire is a
greater concern (cooking). How far you wander offshore is also relevant
(how much time is needed to get back to shore). For a 24-footer used for
day-sailing, I believe you captured the basics. FWIW, I now keep an AED on
board (heart attack).

I used to keep a few dilaudid pills on board for offshore racing (serious
injury, a long time to get to shore). Someone discovered them and took
them. Go figure.

I use gmail exclusively for this list. Most emails in Jan ended up in my
gmail spam folder but not all. That stopped on 27 Jan and list emails are
now ending up in my primary gmail folder. I did not check my spam folder
until just lately to discover what was happening and that explained why I
could not follow the gist of some conversations
