I see it as cheap insurance and peace of mind. I've used it once and it's
comforting to know that a tow, fuel, jump, or whatever assistance the day
might call for is only a call (or an app) away.

2023-01-14 Thread CHARLES SCHEAFFER via CnC-List
Appreciate all the responses. After reading the emails, I did some research
and learned:
The West Marine's Advantage Gold Membership is $25/year and that provides the
initial TowBoatUS membership which is $50 off first tow, so I'd probably want
to "up" that coverage to Unlimited. That looks worthwhile.
I read the contract and learned that TowBoatUS covers the member on other
vessels, like charters and rentals and vessels on loan, but not if the vessel's
owner is aboard. Be careful if using it as a guest.

I'll probably get it for peace of mind.

Note that on my recent renewal with Boat/US there were mileage limits on the
tow depending on the level of insurance.
The old unlimited may still be available but don’t assume that your coverage
includes it——“caveat emptor” or something like that!!
OTOH, before I returned to Boat/US, my towing coverage had a $1000 deductible.
The one time I used it for a tow of about 1/8 mile (board problem had it down
in a channel into marina),guess what the tow cost—exactly $1000!

unless you're going far and need a tow, it sounds like you've got your
