Hi Dennis,

No, Grenadine’s sheaves are definitely much thinner and larger diameter, and
aluminum.

Cheers,
Randy

Stus-List Re: 30 MK I Mast Sheaves

2023-03-16 Thread Randy Stafford via CnC-List
Thanks Roy. Grenadine has always been a freshwater boat, so corrosion is not
an issue.

The main halyard masthead sheave is a bit buggered on one of its rims from the
halyard jumping the sheave and being pried back out. I don’t know if it’s a
chafing risk for a new all-rope halyard, but it’s not that big of a deal and
not that much cost to replace the sheaves.

Cheers,
Randy

Stus-List Re: General guidance for parting out lots of stuff:

2023-03-16 Thread rjcasciato--- via CnC-List
So, Group…I’ve already replied to Pete’s request for help. But that made me
think about my own situation………I own a 1977 C&C MKIIC…….I have continually
upgraded it and for the past 10 years, we’ve been racing it with a crew that
I’ve been with for over 30 years. Yes, we’re all getting older, but in the
process, I’ve removed a bunch of gear. Things like all of the original
winches, the baby stay and gear, a couple of sets of Garhauer genoa cars, and
lots of hardware like 2 brand new Garhauer turning blocks from a C&C 115?

What does the group suggest for a way to list this stuff? I’d like to keep it
inside the C&C list, and while I’m in Sarasota until late May, I could be
assembling the list by then. Obviously, some stuff is going to be free……like
the winches if you pay to ship them, and lots of smaller hardware just needs to
go to a good home (boat).

2023-03-16 Thread Jeff Nelson via CnC-List

They look way to wide for the masthead sheaves on a C&C 30.
The important measurements are:
  - Size of axle hole
  - Overall diameter of the sheave
  - overall width of the sheave
Extra measurements:
  - Width of the rope groove (ie what size rope will it hold
  - Width of wire groove

See:

The original sheaves were grooved for wire/rope halyards.  I’m

will replace the sheaves to match.  I’m preparing to order

Randy,.

Forgot to mention.  The original C&C masthead sheaves are aluminum with bronze
bushings.   Basically bulletproof and superior to modern plastic ones.

They likely just need cleaning and  lubrication.

That said, some people have concerns that the dual groove design causing
premature wear on rope.    Best solution to that IMO is to take them to a
machine shop and have them re cut for rope only.   Cheaper than buying new
ones, and you end up with a better quality result.

Roy
