Re: Stus-List 35-5 outhaul control line

2019-05-06 Thread Josh Muckley via CnC-List
Similar to Charlie, I have a open end at both ends of the boom. It is
relatively easy to get to the attachment for the purchase system at the
mast end of the boom. When I re-rigged mine, I found no purchase system
but designed one for the outhaul and the first reef. The outhaul is a 4:1
or 5:1 (I can't remember), and the first reef is 3:1. If I had to remove
the systems I would put a tag line on the outboard end tail and disconnect
the mast end attachment, then withdraw the whole system.

I think you will probably find that the exposed parts that attach to the
sail are separate pieces from those that exit the mast.

Our 37/40+ has wire leading to the sail clew but line coming out the gooseneck
leading to a clutch and winch.  After pulling out the wire cable, I found an
eye one end and the line tied to the eye.  Very simple. Not sure this will

Don't know about the 35-3 outhaul system but my 36XL/kcb there is a purchase
system buried in the boom as well likely similar to yours.
Mine can be accessed by undoing a shackle near the gooseneck on the underside
of the boom after the the outhaul is free to move.
IIRC, you should undo the outhaul line from the mainsail clew, attach a
messenger line to it and then pull the purchase out from the gooseneck opening.
The messenger line makes it much easier to reassemble plus it helps in
understanding how the purchase works and how to reassemble it-don't ask me
how I know!!
This is not to say even this procedure is 'easy'--working above your head under
the boom at the gooseneck is a PITA. However, I don't believe you need to
disassemble the boom to replace the purchase--although you may feel that you
have done that just getting the purchase system out!
My boom cannot be disassembled--everything is welded.
YMMV,

Is the current outhaul line still there? Can you attach a new line to old and
pull it thru?I use whipping twine to sew old and new lines end to end then
gently pull in new line. Doug Mountjoy Sv Rebecca Leah LF39253-208-1412Port
