Isn't the magic eraser absorbant ?
That can't be good in an engine compartment
I was googlin' "ABYC" and "engine" but so far can't find anything specific
about sound insulation (I do see that absorbent material is not welcome)

One might be better off looking for sound absorbing material from an industrial
supplier.
Below is a link to sound absorbers at McMaster-Carr. One the materials listed
as ''Easy-to-Clean and Fire Retardant'' is melamine foam. I looked up
melamine on wikipedia and it turns out to be the standard used for sound
proofing and also the same foam used for the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.
