Hi there,

Not exactly what you're looking for but I laboured over the flexible / rigid
panel installation and finally went with flexible. I thought others may be
interested also.

- 2 x 100 watt panels
- 2 x nylon straps pulled tight side to side over the bimini
- panel edges protected covered with pipe insulation to protect bimini
- panels zap strapped to bimini
- pool noodle squeezed over front edge of panels to "flatten" the fore-aft
profile

5 minutes to remove and 10 minutes to replace. I leave them on April to
November and will stow below for the winter.

This is what I have. It's a lightweight construction made of wood. It's
large, so great for the tropics. There are two small semitransparent
"skylights" so I can peek at the sails while underway. The solar panels are
screwed onto the roof at the back. The section in the middle is strong
enough to hold an adult, so I can climb up there to unzip the lazy bag. It
works as a raincatcher too. I have to unscrew it to remove it, but I've
never actually done it myself.

Cheers,

Here is what I have. I remove the panels each winter. Takes 10-15 minutes.

I’ll be at the boat tomorrow. I’ll try and take some better ones.

Re: Stus-List Bimini top with solar panels?

2019-09-20 Thread Shawn Wright via CnC-List
Sounds like an interesting idea. Our current bimini folds back to lay
against the solar arch as the boom is too low to use it while sailing. The
solar panels alone provide some shade at the helm, and in our climate, we
usually want the sun. If we decide this is the boat to go south in, I may
look at raising the boom a bit to allow for a better bimini.

I was watching a recent video from Sailing Uma on YT where they got a new
solar arch welded up somewhere in the Chesapeake Bay area; might be worth
checking out for ideas, as being storm worthy was one of their criteria. It
was a video from the current season.

Stus-List Bimini top with solar panels?

2019-09-20 Thread Bruce Whitmore via CnC-List
Hello all,

I have re-registered to the list using my Gmail account as I was having
problems getting emails through m SBC/Yahoo account. So, if some of you
were reaching out to me, please rest assured I was not ignoring you, and
feel free to send something through here or to bruce.whitmo...@gmail.com.

At any rate, I want to replace our Sunbrella bimini with a combination of
100 watt fixed solar panels and translucent polycarbonate structured sheets
such as those here: www.hardtotop.com.

One thing though - I want to make sure both the solar panels and the
plastic are relatively easy to remove due to the risk of hurricanes here in
Florida.

Has anyone done anything like this, and can you provide pictures?

Thanks!
