Adam, I had a 1981 36KCB and the compressor was mounted on the upper shelf in the lazerette behind the ice box. It would help to add a vent to the outside at the rear of the lazerette to lose the heat generated. I had the atomic 4 so a little different configuration. FWIW I had a nova cool CDN fridge unit and just installed a new one in my current boat. Easy job. Len Crazy Legs 37+
