Paul, you can usually wire the propane detector to shut off the propane solenoid if it senses fuel. I am shopping for an automatic fire extinguisher for the engine compartment that uses a non corrosive extinguishing agent. An automatic engine shut down device is recommended. Sea-fire makes an automatic marine extinguisher for $218 USD at West Marine that will service 25 cubic feet and the 50 cubic foot is $255. The Sea-fire has a NC switch and I am thinking of wiring the M35 electric lift pump through the NC switch. Another good reason to attend the mid Atlantic rendezvous next month, they are an absolutely ridiculous price in Canada. I am sure you have all been reading about the 30+ people that died on the dive boat that caught on fire. It is horrible reading and it really got me to thinking about my own boat. I don’t do it so much now at my advanced age, but throwing the forward hatch all the way open and climbing in and out of it was pretty standard fare when we were kids. I just made damn sure my family knows how to release the hatch supports and climb out. I also may get a boat smoke detector. I already have a CO detector. We had a live-aboard powerboat go up this winter and the lady that was living on her barely got out. The boat went up very fast.
