Re: Stus-List Hurricane Michael - afterwards

2018-10-10 Thread Dennis C. via CnC-List
Spent day on Touche' watching Hurricane Michael. It was almost a non event
here in Pensacola.

I really feel for those less fortunate. Nasty, nasty storm. Going to be
lots of suffering.

The worst I saw was 30 knots during a gust or two. Not even much rain.
Storm surge on Bayou Chico was about 2.5 feet. Right now the sun is out
and it's blowing mid-teens with gusts to 22 knots.

Used the day to do a thorough cleaning below.

The news channels up here are saying it may reach Cat 4 by the time it makes
landfall.

A nasty storm.

Bill, put up the chute! Get that drilling rig moving!

I finished storm prep on Touche' early afternoon. Just wrapped sails,
dropped canvas, and added a spring line. Forecast is 28 kts maximum
sustained and max gusts around 40 kts early afternoon Wednesday.

A large motor yacht docked across the pier from Touche'. It will
effectively block most of the wind. Nice.

Had beautiful sunset.

Hope to undo all the storm prep Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning and
be DONE with storms!

I wonder how long it will take Eglin AFB to clear the aircraft. Between the 33
rd Fighter wing, the Armaments Directorate and the climatic lab, they have just
about one of every aircraft flying. I spent a lot of time there in the early
80's (Building 999).

Hopefully everybody makes out well (aircraft and boats). This one is going to
hit pretty hard and move fast. May bring us some snow up here by early next
week.
