Stus-List Marinco solar vent motor

2019-08-12 Thread Francois Rivard via CnC-List
Hi Dennis,

I replaced mine about 4 years ago, it's still running 24/7 * 12 months a
year.

I also replaced the NiMH battery at the same time, I used an Eneloop "C"
size, don't think those are still available. They sell a "C" adapter for
their AA battery or you can just buy a regular NiMH "C" or sub "C" cell

At the time, I looked everywhere for higher quality motor but couldn't find
it, so I bought a $2.00 motor.

I believe this is what I used:
https://www.homesciencetools.com/product/motor-electric-dc-0-5-6-volt/

I had to do some minor mods to it: If I remember right I wrapped a couple
layers of tape around it to insure a tight fit in the housing as the
diameter is slightly smaller than the Marinco original motor and I also
used small zip ties to help secure the original impeller to the shaft.
Beyond that, it's a simple matter of soldering the small capacitor and
leads as per the original.

I can check for you / take pictures when I go to my boat which should be
tomorrow or Wednesday.

Been through some pretty intense stuff and never had any water enter
through the solar vent. Touche's vent is forward of the mast also.

I just purchased that vent as well.
Do you know if very heavy spray will find its way down that vent and it will
have to be buttoned up inside?
Thinking of having it before the mast.
Just did a lake race and ended up with a ton of water in the V-Berth Because I
didn't dog the hatch down all they way.

Touché’s Marinco/Nicro model 20703 3 inch solar vent motor died. I bought a new
20703 and installed it. Marinco no longer makes the 20703. It’s now the 20803.

Anyway, the solar panel in the old one still puts out 2.2+ vdc. It’s the motor
that’s dead. I think the motor is just a 1.5-3 vdc small hobby motor. They cost
about $5. On the old motor are “227” and “2E29”. The motor is about 1 3/8 inch
diameter and 1 inch tall. Don’t know the rpm.

I haven’t been able to find or cross reference the darn thing. Would be nice to
fix the old one as a spare.

Anybody know where I can find one or what a good industry number for one is?

I may hit a couple hobby shops to see if they can reference it.

Saw that one. Hobby Lobby also has one. Need to measure the shaft diameter.
Vendors for these small motors aren’t forthcoming with specs and dimensions.

This looks a lot like the motor in my Nicro vent, it would depend on the
shaft size which isn't listed.
