Stus-List Re: C Motorsailer
Niagara Nautic, later reborn as Aztec Yachts, was started by my wife’s late husband, Henk Zwart and Henri Adriaanse (along with silent partner Jay Dubbeld) in the mid 70s. You know about Henri already. Henk worked in the development shop making molds with George Hinterhoeller at C before this. They designed and first built the Nautilus 40 pilothouse, then the Nautilus 36 pilothouse which was updated into the Nautilus 11m when Aztec was formed. These are very solid, well-built boats and were all pretty much custom boats for each owner since they were a small shop and the interiors were somewhat stick built. If you want to know more about these boats, the guy who knows the most is Art Epp, a later partner in the business. I asked if he minded me posting his email and he gave a thumbs-up mailto:art_...@yahoo.com>>. The company in St. Catharines that Doug mentioned is Neptunus Yachts, located in the former Hinterhoeller Yachts building where I worked back in the 80s. Later Saga Yachts and Turner Yachts were in the same industrial park with many of the same people - former Hinterhoeller and C people who kept recirculating in the Niagara boat ecosystem. I spent a couple of weeks doing a passage on a 1980-ish Baltic 39. Hull, rig, deck (except for the teak on top), Edson steering, etc., were all very C as far as I could see but the interior was not. It was like a rear-cabin C with a crosswise "hallway" at the forward end of the cabin. You had to climb over it to get into the main cabin which made the companionway steps very tall but it also made it safe from getting pooped. Nice boat.
