The Mack Pack has a line attached to the zipper and blocks mounted front and rear so you can grab that line anywhere along its length and open or close the zipper. Nice feature. Hi there, We had a tides marine mast track and Doyle stack pack on our 30-2 worked fairly good for convenience. On our 34 + we have a batten rail car system for the track, which I love, and a brand new conventional sailcover with cut out and fold over velcroed flaps for lazy jack lines. I was considering whether one could install a zipper down the top of the sail cover to use as a lazy version of a stack pack and still be able to remove when performance or more aesthetic pleasing sailing was preferred. Also, when I asked the local Doyle loft about it they said that they do not make stack packs anymore but instead it is called a sail Cradle. main difference being that it does not afix to the sail. Pricing is roughly $ 100 per ft. Bat bucks being assigned elsewhere but I am still interested in whether a functional Zipper arrangement idea could be arranged on conventional cover. If you are asking about Lazy Jacks, I made them myself twice (for the old boat and for this one). There are many designs, some more complicated than others. I used a design that is very similar to what Harken has on their website. Depending on your preferences, you may want to design a system that can be moved forward when you are sailing, so no lines chafe against the sail. If you plan to make the jacks yourself, one word of advice – you will need _plenty_ of line (3-4 times the length of the mast, maybe more), so measure three times before cutting. Also, the more complicated systems offer serious advantages, but the system you build needs to be simple enough that _you_ will want to use it. I switched my regular sail cover over to a stack pack and lazy jack system about 5 years ago. I have to say I love it and more importantly the admiral loves it. It makes dropping the sail and covering super easy. There is no struggling with sail ties.I especially appreciate it in snotty weather or when short handed in times when the sail needs to be dropped quickly. At the time it cost about $100 a foot of boom length through Doyle. I looked at the tide track but like Chuck find the slugs with a clean and lubricated sail track works well. We also put mast gates on. These allow the slugs to be lowered even further. At the end of the season I disconnect the lines and it slides right off and into the back of the truck. It has been one of the better upgrades I have done. Adam Hayden State of Bliss Pictou NS Thanks to all of the subscribers that contributed to the list to help with the costs involved. I made lazy jacks for my Catalina 27. I had cleats on the mast at boom height (from PO) on both sides so after the sail was dropped and strapped, I pulled the lazy jacks forward and covered the main with un-altered cover. I no longer have pictures but will attempt to describe. My lazy jacks were one continuous line. Port side, starting at mast cleat, go aft 1/3 distance of main to a micro turning block on the boom. Next, up to a turning block hanging from a mast connection, then back to boom at 2/3 aft distance from mast. There I had a small strap on the bottom of the boom, like a pipe clamp. The line passed through to starboard, then repeated the process. The turning block line hanging from the mast (one each side) was attached to a small strap on the mast, located about 2/3 up. Chuck - I have an unaltered conventional sail cover in addition to lazyjacks. I single hand mostly and can manage to drop and secure the main, no problem. The tension in the lazy jacks is adjusted with rolling hitches so I have to leave the cockpit to do that, close hauled, and it’s not a big deal really, I just give them a push or a pull. I could run lines aft but the extra clutter isn’t worth it to me. The lazy bag is appealing, but only because it takes a few more minutes off the prep/put away time. Not strictly necessary otherwise though it may contain the aft leech a bit better than the lazy jacks do. Boat is a 33-2 with two full, two partial battens on a max-phrf main with a big roach.
