Re: Stus-List Refridgeration
My Cold Machine had electrical problems two years ago. I called in a pro and had it repaired for around $250. That got me through the season. Last year the system ran low on pressure. I found some illegal refrigerant and got it up and running. Toward the end of last year the leak got worse. At that point I decided to bite the bullet and replace everything. It was becoming a constant maintenance problem and the illegal refrigerant issue was not working for me. The compressor runs and cycles off for very short periods. Sometimes the temperature is perfect at 34-38 for days on end, then then other times it will stay in the high 40's - low 50's. Shutting it off and letting it sit for a few hours seems to help but this could be anecdotal. Two questions before I call in a pro. Has anyone have advice for self repair? Is it worth calling in a pro with a unit this old, or should I just remove and replace? Thanks in advance, Rob ___ Thanks everyone for supporting this list with your contributions. Stus-List Refridgeration
Rob I replaced the controller on my compressor unit after it started doing that sort of nonsense and it’s been fine since. If it has a Danfoss compressor you can track one down on-line. Mine was older than yours and it was difficult to find. But if yours is from 1999 it shouldn’t be too hard. Sure marine in Seattle will probably have what you need. Install was simple. Good luck. Re: Stus-List Refridgeration
When mine acted like that it was the circuit board. If you go the pro route make sure they are knowledgeable with 12 volt systems. I went the pro route (residential) and he overcharged the system. It took me a while to get the pressure lowered. If you have a danfoss compressor there is lots of info of the web. I have what appears to be an original circa 1999 Cold Machine. The compressor runs and cycles off for very short periods. Sometimes the temperature is perfect at 34-38 for days on end, then then other times it will stay in the high 40's - low 50's. Shutting it off and letting it sit for a few hours *seems to help *but this could be anecdotal. Two questions before I call in a pro. Has anyone have advice for self repair?
