Re: Stus-List Removing wood bungs
Drill a hole in the bung till the drill bit contacts the screw that's beneath the bung. Then screw in a sheet metal screw. When the sheet metal screw contacts the screw that's under the bung, continue to screw it in, and the bung will slide out. Re: Stus-List Removing wood bungs
If the wood is varnished, you should cut through the varnish first. Otherwise, you may pull up splinters from the wood adjoining the bung. Go to Harbor Freight. Buy a cheap set of Forstner drill bits ($10). Carefully center the correct size bit in the bung. Rotate a few times around the bung to cut the varnish. Even if the piece isn't varnished, it's still a good idea to cut around the bung. Drill a hole in the center of the bung 1/2 to 2/3 the size of the bung. Insert a woodscrew until it contacts the fastener. Carefully rotate the screw a bit more. If you're lucky, the bung will ride up the screw. It may just crumble to pieces. Pick out the pieces with an awl or knife tip. Dennis C. On Tue, Jul 25, 2017 at 1:58 PM, Josh Muckley via CnC-List < cnc-list@cnc-list.com> wrote: > Just use a wood screw to screw into the bung. Just use a wood screw to screw into the bung. It will pop right out. It will e destroyed but it will come out. Get/cut a new plug, glue in place, shave off with a chisel. Lightly sand with a block.
