Stus-List Rendezvous update

Again, the rendezvous was a success.  Regulars and some new faces were there 
(missed one face who does not have a camera).  Always a good chat session for

I'm in Tampa and keep Chamamé at Davis Island near downtown. There are 6 or
7 other C in our club too. Four including Chamamé are very active and
there's also a very nice C 40' for sale.

I think you?ll find the consensus of advice to be ?Don?t do it.?

 

The hull to deck joint and toe rail on the older C is a pretty well 
engineered setup that will last a lifetime. There are several  hundred of us on 
the list, and I suspect the number who have had leaks in the toe rail or hull 
to deck join is near single digits.

 

Basically the joint (from bottom to  top) is as follows: Inward facing flange 
on the hull, layer of butyl, rubber rub rail riveted to the hull flange, 
another layer of butyl, the deck, another layer of butyl, the toe rail, then it 
is all through bolted with stainless oval head machine screws. My 25 has screws 
every 6? (IIRC) and my 38 is bolted every 4?. Removing the bolts and toe rail 
can possibly compromise every layer of the seal.

 

If you have an owners? manual (or buy one from the Photo Album website) you can 
see a cross section of the joint.

 

In almost all cases the recommended fix for a leak (which seem to mostly be 
around the machine screws) is to tighten the through bolts about ? to a full 
turn, and apply Captain Tolley?s Creeping Crack Cure to the inside edge of the 
toe rail to deck joint. 

 

Tightening the bolts is a two man job ? the person on top holds the screw in 
place so it does not turn (which breaks the seal of the butyl and can result in 
a leak) while the person below tightens the nut a bit. Be careful not to 
overtighten the nut because you can squeeze all of the butyl out of the joint.

Stus-List Rendezvous

The rendezvous was another big success! Thanks to Josh and Carmelita for 
organizing and the rest of the attendees for contributing to the fun, 
refreshments, food etc. We really enjoyed the C and St Michaels and are 
already looking forward to next year! We had a blue crab picking, eating lesson 
and a tour of the Museum so we left a little late. I wanted to see the Bay 
Bridge and got further delayed by construction. So to Joe’s question ended up 
driving to the Alleghenys in Pa last night and grabbed a hotel room due to fog 
and number of deer on the hwy. we will be home tonight and it’s worth the long 
drive!

us on their warm boats in the unseasonably cool & damp weather

We discovered Angel's Envy in May of this year and had the opportunity to

Rendezvous' since it was at the 2017 NE Rendezvous that Rob Gallagher got

Thank you for the link to the NE Rendezvous.

I have not been able to view the cnc photo album by clicking on the “view 
photos online” button for some time.  When I click on that button a message 
comes up “web page cannot be found”.  I admit to having only rudimentary IT 
skills and it is likely a security setting in my browser ( IE 11) or some other 
issue with my approach.

Any hints?

I have sometimes had this problem when the browser is using cached info to 
navigate instead of a new address.  I would trying clearing the browser cache

I have only been to Block Island once many years ago and we only explored the road north to the lighthouse on mountain bikes. My wife and I would like to explore further and are planning on bringing road bikes. From what I have read, at least the main loop road should be road bike accessible. True? Are the other roads too rough for road bikes or is there more we could potentially explore? Thanks- Dave

Greetings;

I see some traffic on the list with questions about the Rendezvous.

In case anyone missed it, here is a link to the sign up:

As of now I believe we have at least 15 boats attending.

What we really need now is for anyone who is planning on attending to
please sign up so we can give the Block Island Historical Society a head
count for the Museum tour and the Rob Ball talk.  They have a limit to how
many can go with each volunteer and a head count will help them schedule.

I will be posting more updates in the next few days.

If anyone has any questions or needs some local information please don't
hesitate to contact me directly by phone or email.
