I sailed on one at Newport at the C Rendezvous last year and passed on on
the water (going in the opposite direction) on Gardeners Bay this summer. The
boat is a blast downwind. We were doing 11-12 knots in 9-10 knots of wind.
Upwind it is designed to sail on its chines so you better have your feet on the
built in foot brace or hold on tight. Jerry. J C 27 mkv.

It sure did look like fun, but my son told me I had no business on a Melges 24
when I talked about getting one for racing, so I'm guessing he wouldn't approve
trading in my old 30-1 for one of these.Besides, it might cut into my
retirement funds too deeply too late in life.  Maybe later on the used
market...It would be a blast on Carlyle lake where we have little chop to speak
of.  And then haul to Chicago for regattas.RonWild CheriSTL

Re: Stus-List Video of C 30 racing in Annapolis

2015-11-21 Thread David Knecht via CnC-List
I was struck by the fact that with the chute up, the bobstay was constantly
throwing up spray which to me means it is like adding a brake to the bow.
Probably not a big issue on a boat of this size, but on a dinghy it would be
slow. On another boat, the entire crew was standing near the transom,
presumably trying to keep the bow high which I would guess was for the same
reason. It would leave me concerned about the balance of the boat with that
monster chute up. Dave
