[cobirds] Jaeger et al at Chatfield
Topi Martinez, Sue Young and I saw the jaeger chase and catch a gull. Despite dunking the gull, it managed to get away. Thanks to Todd D for helping us find the right pier. We also got great looks at a merlin a little to the east of the marina, as well as the other birds reported, except for the loons since we didn't have a scope. [cobirds] Late Hummingbird--Lakewood/Jeffco
Our backyard in Green Mtn was very active this afternoon before the front moved in. We had a very late Townsend's Warbler and a couple of Ruby-crowned Kinglets. The biggest surprise was a late hummingbird that has visited the hummingbird feeders a couple of times. The initial identification is that of a Black-chinned Hummingbird. This is the latest date for a hummingbird in our backyard. We had a Anna's Hummingbird visit the 14-16th of October back in 2011. I always leave our hummingbird feeders as late as possible wishing for a rarity or assisting a late hummingbird on his journey south. [cobirds] Red-necked Grebe, Lake Loveland, (and late Timnath Surf Scoter report) Larimer County
Hello All, After hearing that a Red-necked Grebe was found at Lake Loveland today (courtesy Cheri Orwig), we headed over there to see if we could find it. We located the bird in the northwest arm of the Lake, just off of the swim beach. Also, yesterday afternoon, I was able to relocate at least five of the six Surf Scoters that have been reported at Timnath Reservoir over the past few days. They were scattered around quite a bit through all the other birds present. [cobirds] White-throated Sparrow, Boulder County, 10/20
Hello, Birders. This evening, Sunday, Oct. 20, while Andrew and I were out looking for rocks at Greenlee Preserve, Boulder County, we came upon a flock of Zonotrichia sparrows: mainly White-crowned Sparrows of course, but also a White-throated Sparrow. The flock was moving around a bit, but the birds were in the general vicinity of the southwestern corner of Greenlee Preserve, which is the same as the northwestern corner of Waneka Lake. I'm guessing they'll spend the night. Or maybe, with the weather letting up as it is right now, they're already on nocturnal migration. [cobirds] Chatfield this afternoon
Greeting All David Dowell and I spent about an hour (3-4 PM approx) at Chatfield looking in vain for yonder jaeger. Perhaps it was to well fed after its Larid repast and was off digesting some place quiet. We did see, however, a juvenile Mew Gull on the Marina Sandspit, and over the reservoir a young Sabine's Gull and a juv Thayer's Gull. Today at Pueblo Reservoir there was both a Pacific and a Common Loon. At Pueblo City Park, 4 Pygmy Nuthatches and 7 Mountain Chickadees, but no YB Sapsucker. Similarly, we completed are triple dip by not seeing the YC Night Heron Good Birding Steven Mlodinow Longmont Sent from my iPhone Sent from my iPhone -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Colorado Birds group. [cobirds] Greater Yellowlegs and Marsh Wren, Walden Ponds, Boulder County
Early this afternoon, I saw eight Greater Yellowlegs on the western shore of Cottonwood Marsh. When I was leaving, they were close to the parking lot on the southern shore. A chattering and singing Marsh Wren was in the cattails about 10 m north of the last sign towards the west along the boardwalk. The lake had many of the usual dabblers (i.e., Am. Wigeon, Gadwall, No. Shoveler, Mallard) and a few Ring-necked Ducks. Paula Hansley Louisville -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Colorado Birds group.
