[cobirds] Pine Warbler and Yellow-bellied Sapsucker Lamar (Prowers Co) CO

2016-11-19 Thread Janeal Thompson
The adult male Pine Warbler (PIWA) continues to make irregular visits to
the juniper tree in my front yard; sometimes going to the peanut feeder and
other times taking seeds from caches of 2 Red-breasted Nuthatches. Today,
a male Yellow-bellied Sapsucker was in the same tree with the PIWA, a first
winter female Yellow-rumped Warbler and 7 other more common visitors.

[cobirds] Boulder County Lakes

2016-11-19 Thread William H Kaempfer
I took a pre-football game tour of NE Boulder County lakes this morning with
John Vanderpoel. We visited Panama, Union (honorary status in Boulder County),
Ish, Terry, Clark, McIntosh, Crane Hollow, Clover Basin, Lagerman and Dodd
Reservoirs and ended up with a trip list of 50 species.

Of the 8 less common, but highly desired waterfowl species for this time of
year (3 scoters, Long-tailed Duck, Barrow's Goldeneye, Common and Pacific Loon,
and Red-necked Grebe) we found zero. That is, as in none of the above. Well,
we still had an enjoyable morning with lots of individuals and species to keep
us busy. Here are some highlights:

First American Tree Sparrows of the fall at Panama Res.
Terry Res. is full of an incredible number of birds. Too bad it isn't more
easily viewed, but it had Bonaparte's Gulls and a fairly large number of
American White Pelican still present (also at Union and McIntosh) along with
hundreds of other gulls, goldeneyes and mergansers.
Dodd Res. with 2 Snow and one Ross's Goose.

Finally, I will note that Lark Latch had a hummingbird zip by her yesterday in
North Boulder. This is the time off year to pay attention to hummers as there
could be a real wonder out there. For instance, today there was an Anna's in
Nebraska.

[cobirds] Gulls, El Paso County

2016-11-19 Thread David Tønnessen
Hey all,

I stopped by Big Johnson Reservoir this evening after 4:00, and was
immediately surprised to see gulls numbering in the thousands, which I
don't think I've seen here before. I didn't pick out anything other than
Ring-billed until after dark (only had 10 or 15 minutes of sunlight) when I
managed to separate 3 California Gulls, an adult Herring Gull, and four
Lesser Black-backed Gulls swimming together near the far shore. Since most
of the gulls were at the far shore (both on land and in water) and it was
dark most of the time I was observing, I'm confident I missed at least a
few other light-backed gulls (probably a few more Cals and Herrings). I
think it would be worth checking tomorrow if the gulls stay.

Aside from gulls, 3 merganser species were present as well as many Common
Goldeneyes, a Cackling Goose, and two late American White Pelicans.

[cobirds] Escaped Cockatiel in Fort Collins

2016-11-19 Thread Jeff Birek
Just spreading the word in case someone is missing their cockatiel. I found it
about 30 minutes ago in City Park by the basketball court near the baseball
diamonds. It was a normal, gray-plumaged bird. It was flying around the elms
and was quite vocal!

Happy birding!
