2017-12-30 Thread Karl Stecher Jr.
I moved to Aurora this summer, and have three black-caps now.
But last winter at roughly Colorado Blvd and Orchard, I had two mountains
on and off during the winter into early spring.

Given all the rarities being posted, I hesitated with mountain chickadees,
but it's been a really long time since we had them at our feeders (at least
five years), so I thought I'd go ahead. We have at least two of them this
morning, and we live about half a mile south of Clement park in Littleton.

[cobirds] Black Phoebe relocated, Adams County

2017-12-30 Thread Marcia Canter
Hi CoBirders
I was able to relocate the Black Phoebe today at about 9:55 at the sewage
treatment plant along the S. Platte in Adams County. It was just at the
bridge that crosses the Platte there. I had good views as it was
flycatching and returning to the same location. Black with white belly that
forms a peak towards chest. Head feathers are somewhat raised in back.

2017-12-30 Thread Greg Pasquariello
I'm a bit south and east, at Santa fe and Highlands Ranch Parkway. They
are at my feeders too, although they've been here for quite some time (late
August). They arrived the same time as the red breasted nuthatches.

[cobirds] San Luis Valley Cranes and Oddities

2017-12-30 Thread mvjohnski
Wow what birds on the east slope. Great opportunities for sure.
In the San Luis Valley, we had a brown Christmas, warm with 50 degree
temps. It is no wonder that yesterday, as I was ice skating with my
daughter, that 8 Sandhill Cranes flew overhead. Not totally unexpected but
unusual for sure. In addition, the Monte Vista Christmas Count found 25
Brown-headed Cowbirds for a first winter record for this area. Poor skiing
but the ice skating is great this year! Happy new year from the San Luis
valley!
