[cobirds] Bullock’s x Baltimore Oriole hybrid male adult, Larimer County

2019-05-28 Thread Libby Edwards
Besides the 10-12 Western Tanagers, males and females, and the Bullock’s male
and female we have had hanging around our feeders the last few days, today
there was a distinct Bullock’s x Baltimore Oriole hybrid male adult. I would
have taken a picture with a little camera, except that Sibley illustrates it
perfectly on page 440. This has been some kind of colorful spring!

2019-05-28 Thread Meredith McBurney
Between a late start due to the overnight storm and an early close as the
rain threatened, we enjoyed a variety of spring birds with the Tuesday

run of the morning. 33 new birds:

Western Wood-pewee 1
Dusky Flycatcher 1
Cordilleran Flycatcher 1
Swainson's Thrush 2
Gray Catbird 4
Yellow Warbler 10 new, 1 banded 2017
Chestnut-sided Warbler 1

MacGillivray's Warbler 2
Common Yellowthroat 1
Wilson's Warbler 2
Yellow-breasted Chat 1
Lincoln's Sparrow 2
White-crowned Sparrow, Mountain 1
Bullock's Oriole 1

This is our last week; we will take down the station after banding on
Friday. We have organized groups coming our early Wednesday and Thursday
but no school groups later in the morning. We are opening nets at 6:30, and
most days have birds back at the station by 7:15. We aim
to close by noon most days, earlier if it is very hot, very cold, or very
windy.

Come visit during our last week!

[cobirds] Cattle Egrets, Lake Arbor, Jefferson County

2019-05-28 Thread Donna Edmonds
The flock (14) of Cattle Egrets is still hanging around the Lake, primarily
on the North side in a large grassy area. I first saw this flock a about 4
weeks ago.
Also still present is a pair of Black-crowned Night Herons. I have not
been able to find a nest, but these birds have also been here for at least
the past month.

We are on the ferry heading back to Tokyo at a snails pace because of
Trump. So we do not know
When we will be able to dock.

We were on the island from about 5:30 to 13;30.. it took about an hour for
Phil and Jun to get the cars. We basically birded a nature center and got
most of the birds there. Drove to a coastal spot for grasshopper warbler
and wood pigeon and tried to do pelagic birding but it was too windy so we
went back to the nature center and got a couple of birds that we missed
earlier. Tried to do some pelagic from the ferry but did not see much
 variety.
