[cobirds] Hooded Warbler, Arapahoe County
Hi all, While walking along the Lee Gulch trail this afternoon I chanced upon a calling male HOODED WARBLER. See the attached ebird checklist for more details. Initially spotted roughly 50 feet from Mineral Ave. https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S59964275 Good birding, Santiago Tabares, Littleton, CO -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds" group. [cobirds] Lamar Community College Woods (Prowers)
This is mostly an update on the condition of the LCC Woods. I have been down there 4 times since the 14th. The trail was pretty overgrown in spots and it looks rather intimidating in terms of chigger potential. On the 14th I said the heck with the consequences and surprisingly suffered no chigger bites. I have been grooming things a bit by hand and foot, and today employed clippers. I have been working from the north end toward the south and so far have it passable 3/4s of the way to where one normally emerges to the road near the north end of the basketball courts. The south end is in OK shape without a lot of “maintenance” but I will finish the north end and maybe tidy the south end a bit soon. FYI, I used to teach occasionally about proper pruning techniques. Sooo, if doubt about the physical condition of the trail has been keeping you away, no chiggers, no impassable tangles along the “main” trail. If you have an allergy to giant ragweed pollen, take your pill. (No woody plants were seriously injured in the making of this movie). As for birds, slow sledding but today I had yellow warbler, FOS at low elevation ruby-crowned kinglet, flyover chimney swifts and ovenbird. The latter was under Russian-olives at the extreme north end just where the trail starts heading south at the bottom of the entry hill. [cobirds] Bird Conservancy Banding Report - Chico Basin Ranch, 9/20/19
A very quiet morning today: no visitors, no volunteers, and few birds around the banding station. While the weather was calm the first few hours, it was easily the slowest day of the season so far, with just 6 newly-banded birds and 1 recapture. I suspect that last night's strong southerly breezes weren't very conducive for migrants, among other factors. Today's summary: Wilson's Warbler 1 Orange-crowned Warbler 1 MacGillivray's Warbler 1 House Wren 1 Western Tanager 1 Gray Catbird 1 Willow/Alder ("Traill's") Flycatcher 1 (within-season recapture) We are open 6 days a week, closed on Sundays.. Tomorrow we'll be opening nets at 6:40 AM and closing at 11:40 AM, and starting next week net will be opened at 6:50 AM. Visitors are welcome!
