[cobirds] Crow roosts - Denver probaly

2019-12-11 Thread Eric Dinkel
There has been a smaller one- about 50 crows- fairly consistently roosting by
my school near holly and Mexico. Seems that they roost within a half mile or so
of that when i see them.

[cobirds] Christmas Bird Counts this weekend

2019-12-11 Thread Brandon
18 Colorado Christmas Bird Counts are scheduled this weekend. The weather
doesn't look wonderful. Snow likely both Saturday and Sunday in Colorado.
I don't know of any postponements for any counts yet, though it is
possible, so check with the compiler.

Saturday, 14 December:
Colorado Springs, Denver, Fairplay, Fort Collins, Granby, Longmont, Monte
Vista NWR, Pueblo Reservoir, Pagosa Springs, Salida, and Steamboat Springs

Sunday, 15 December:
Aspen, Boulder, Durango, Evergreen-Idaho Springs, Grand Junction, Gunnison,
and Penrose.

If a bird species is missed on count day, it can be added to the count
list, as count week species, if found three days before or after count day
in the count circle. So, today was the first day for count week for the
Saturday, 14 December counts. Tomorrow, would be the first day for count
week for the Sunday, 15 December counts (if they aren't postponed). It is
possible that some rarities in Colorado, will not be seen on any Colorado
CBC, during count day, and just be found during count week, so make sure to
keep track of those.

[cobirds] Crow roosts - Denver probaly

2019-12-11 Thread 'Hugh Kingery' via Colorado Birds
A casual birder asked Denver Audubon where crows roost. Last year she saw lots
of them gathered at the south end of Washington Park.
Has anyone seen roosts this winter?

[cobirds] Yard birds, Douglas, Arapahoe

2019-12-11 Thread 'Hugh Kingery' via Colorado Birds
A Fox Sparrow showed up yesterday to pep up our grayish junco flock, and came
again today. We had seen it for a couple of days in October. And this morning a
neighbor reported a small flock of Cedar Waxwings in his cherry tree -- maybe
not all the cherries got frozen.
The Denver Tech Center feeder that hosted a Canyon towhee for 2-3 days in
October, saw again it for 2-3 days in November. She also has a Harris's Sparrow
coming  into her feeder.

We keep looking!
