[cobirds] American Dipper South Platte Park Mineral Bridge
Saw an American Dipper today under the Mineral Street Bridge at South Platte Park bopping away and swimming in the cold current for food. Tried to upload a video, but my only options were photos or audio, so it appears eBird only allows certain people or certain formats of a certain size... I also think I saw a Says Phoebe which isn't common there this time of the year. I posted a photo on eBird and would welcome comments. It had a definite phoebe slanted head crest that I was not able to capture before it flew off. [cobirds] Late afternoon Gulls at Pueblo Res. 2/15
I went over to the South Shore Marina this afternoon, hoping the Glaucous Gull would be there, it has been seen only three times this year, out there (twice this month), and it seems to never be there, when I'm there. I again missed Glaucous Gull this afternoon, though did see adult Mew Gull, adult Iceland (Thayer's) Gull, and the Great Black-backed Gull, also Herring, California, and the many Ring-billed Gulls. On the water, two Common Loons, two small loon species (too far to tell which species they were, since there were closer to the North Marina), Horned, Eared, and Western Grebes. [cobirds] Glaucous Gull, Ken Mitchell Reservoir, Brighton, Adams County
Hi everyone, There has been an off-and-on Glaucous Gull at Ken Mitchell Park/Reservoir in Brighton. All-white bird with black-tipped bill. I observed it today around 1:30 near the south portion of the reservoir. Best viewing for any birds at this location is along Goldeneye Lane rather than the pier as the majority of the rez is still frozen. Glaucous Gull reports on eBird have been sparse this year between Longmont and Aurora Reservoir so wanted to pass this observation along. [cobirds] Re: So Many Gulls - Centennial (Arapahoe)
Steve N. G. Howell's "Gulls of the Americas" is an excellent book, with a few pages of pics per species, including various ages, birds in flight, resting, etc. Dave Cameron Denver On Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 5:48:04 PM UTC-7, Jared Del Rosso wrote: > > I've lived in Centennial for four winters now. [cobirds] 2000 Cranes at MV Refuge
This past week saw favorable migration conditions and Sandhill Cranes and their throaty croaks and whistles were once again heard around the San Luis Valley. There are about 2,000 cranes at the Monte Vista Refuge (Rio Grande County). The water has been turned on so you can see birds off Hwy 15 at the east turnoffs. I saw my first flock of 50 Cackling Geese arriving overhead today on my walk. There are about 2,000 Cranes at other locations and in various grainfields and wetlands as well. I should note that many of the State and Federal Wildlife areas are now closed for the nesting season. This includes Rio Grande SWA and Blanca Wetlands, managed by the BLM. Home Lake is still frozen. Crane Festival is 3 weeks away and hope to see you there. John Rawinski Monte Vista, Colorado -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds" group. [cobirds] Prairie Falcon not a Gyr. Larimer
Sorry folks, I saw a Falcon on the powered pole that typically hosts the Gyr. I was a little too hasty in reporting the Gyr. Turns out to be a Prairie Falcon not the sought after Gyrfalcon.
