Re: [cobirds] Mute Swan - Arapahoe

2020-12-17 Thread 'DEBORAH CARSTENSEN' via Colorado Birds
It is not uncommon for a mute swan to show up from the Polo club which is
next-door to South platte park.

[cobirds] Re: Mute Swan - Arapahoe

2020-12-17 Thread modise
Hugh,

I too saw this bird and posted about it - I was informed it’s an escaped
domestic from the Polo Club grounds. I was sad - thought I’d found a
rarity!

I’ve seen it from the Mineral Ave sidewalk regularly for about the last two
months...

[cobirds] Mute Swan - Arapahoe

2020-12-17 Thread 'Hugh Kingery' via Colorado Birds
Paul Malinowski sent a photo of a Mute Swan that he saw on Cooley Lake, South
Platte Park. (If Cooley is the first lake north of Mineral & west of the
river). He saw it, I think, Dec. 9.

Have other seen this bird? Does it remain?

Did it escape from somewhere? Does it qualify as a 'wild' bird?

[cobirds] Gulls, Arapahoe County

2020-12-17 Thread Mary Kay Waddington
Every day for the last several weeks, about half an hour before sunrise,
about 500 gulls (probably more) have flown over my house from West to East,
very high. And often I see at least 100 flying East to West about half an
hour after sunset. Does anyone have any idea where they're coming from and
where they're going to? I'm just East of Englewood.

[cobirds] Yellow-bellied Sapsucker Arapahoe Couonty

2020-12-17 Thread Mary Kay Waddington
Was watching a Hairy hopping along a branch when all of a sudden an adult
female YBSA popped into view. Stayed around for a good 15 minutes giving
me views from all angles. It is the 3rd time I've seen it this month, so
perhaps it's staying around. (1809 E. Tufts)
