[cobirds] Christmas Bird Counts this weekend

2020-12-18 Thread Brandon
Hope all Christmas Bird Counts go well this weekend and after. There's
quite a few scheduled to happen tomorrow and Sunday throughout the state.
Some counts happened this past week. The Pueblo CBC results are on the
Christmas Bird Count website. That count finished with 100 species, with
19 helpers. Already, a bird that might be the most unexpected bird for any
Colorado Christmas Bird Count this year, the 2nd Colorado CBC record of
Wood Thrush, well photographed! I am sure more surprises are coming this
weekend and after, make sure to get photos of anything that is rare on your
Count.

If you live in any of the Christmas Bird Count circle, you can help by
being a feeder watcher, make sure to contact the compiler of the count, to
see if that is possible.

Have a safe Christmas Bird Count season!

[cobirds] White-winged Scoter, Adams County

2020-12-18 Thread Adam Vesely
Hi all,

There is a White-winged Scoter in Henderson (Adams County) at Dunes
Reservoir. This reservoir is located just north of 112th Avenue between
Highway 85 and Brighton Road. The bird is in the extreme west/southwest
corner and is best viewed by parking in the small parking lot in the
neighborhood near this corner of the reservoir.

[cobirds] Fountain Creek CBC Wednesday Dec. 16th results

2020-12-18 Thread Diana Beatty
The Fountain Creek Christmas Bird Count occurred this past Wednesday on one
of the nicer weather days this week, although it was still chilly with a
decent amount of ice and snow around.

We tallied 85 species and 2 additional count week species (so far) with
7883 individuals, which appears to be fairly average for this count.

Some of our fun sightings included: American Dipper (new for the count),
Eastern Bluebirds returning after an absence of a few years, and 41 Canyon
Towhees (a new count high). A notable miss was Rough-legged Hawk.

[cobirds] Denver backyard finches have been dying since June

2020-12-18 Thread Flavia Hoefler
Have other people in the front range observed finch die offs this year?
Symptoms do not match mycoplasmal conjunctivitis and most closely match
symptoms of trichomoniasis, which I have read affects other varieties of
wild finches (goldfinches; purple finches). I have several times removed
all food for 2-3 week periods and sterilized feeders, but the same symptoms
have returned as soon as the finches figure out food is back. Might there
be a culprit carrier in the Eurasian collared doves that are in their
second year in my area?

Thanks for any help you provide,
