[cobirds] Costa's Hummingbird update

2021-09-13 Thread Duane Nelson

Birders,

The subadult male Costa's Hummingbird visiting feeders in my yard in Las
Animas, Bent County CO has been present more or less continuously since
sunrise this morning. Many birders have seen it today.

I will update cobirds on the status of this rare vagrant tomorrow
morning. Birders are welcome.

[cobirds] Bird Conservancy of the Rockies - Barr Lake Banding Report, 9/21/21

2021-09-13 Thread Meredith McBurney
(Note this is a slightly belated report for Sunday. Today is our day off
and I was, well, lazy last night and most of today.)

Sunday was a slightly busier day with 34 captures, plus we had 3 FOS
species (Cassin's Vireo, Ruby-crowned Kinglet and Hermit Thrush) and our
third Ovenbird. The Ovenbird was just loaded with fat, a very good sign
during migration. Here's the breakdown for the day:

Western Wood-Pewee 1
Cassin's Vireo 1
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1
Hermit Thrush 1
American Robin 1
Grey Catbird 1
Ovenbird 1
Wilson's Warbler 26
'Mountain' White-crowned Sparrow 1

We are open 6 days a week, weather permitting through October 23. Closed
Mondays. Click here
 to register to
visit - we are offering one-hour slots (up to 12 visitors at a time);
7:30-8:30 most weekdays, and 8-9, 9-10, and 10-11 on weekends. Come visit!

[cobirds] Bird Conservancy of the Rockies Chico Basin Ranch Banding Update 9/13/21

2021-09-13 Thread Nancy Ransom
Today was very slow compared to our previous banding days, with only 29
captures for the day. We had our first school groups visit today and they
had an amazing time! It should also be mentioned that we captured a Veery,
Ovenbird, and a Philadelphia Vireo was spotted around the Banding Station.
We also had a new species for the year: Slate-colored Junco! Thank you so
much to Kara L and Jennifer R who came help me volunteer and keep a handle
on the school kids!

Daily captures for 9/13:
Willow Flycatcher 1
Hammond's Flycatcher 1
Wilson's Warbler 14
Orange-crowned Warbler 2
Macgillivray's Warbler 1
Slate-colored Junco 1
Swainson's Thrush 1
Gray Catbird 4
Veery 1
Ovenbird 1
Wilson's Warbler 1
Lazuli Bunting 1

We are open 6 days a week at Chico Basin Ranch (closed Sunday), usually
returning from the first net run around 7am and staying open until about
11:30am, weather permitting. Thank you for your continued support!

[cobirds] Galeton Shorebirds/Weld

2021-09-13 Thread 'The Nunn Guy' via Colorado Birds

Hi all

Galeton ponds (CR 74/61) regular stop for me on weekends. Saturday,
scouting hunters present, no birds.

Sunday, still getting ID confirmations but pretty sure Pectoral, Baird's,
Stilt, Solitary and "maybe" Sanderling(?) sandpipers along with both
yellowlegs, avocet, Black-necked Stilt, Killdeer, Wilson's Phalarope, and
usual gang of Franklin's Gull. What lacked in quantity made up in
diversity, hopefully. ;-)

Some photos (first 28) here (not labeled yet):

[cobirds] Costa's Hummingbird update

2021-09-13 Thread Duane Nelson

Birders,

The immature male Costa's Hummingbird I've hosted at my feeders in Las
Animas (Bent County) since September 10th just put in it's first
appearance of the day. Birders are welcome to visit my yard to look for
it. No need to notify me in advance, but I will try to be here if I know
you are coming.
